Hey, well done, mate!
What do you mean with "not nearly as fit as two months ago"? You should be training hard for the marathon
Probably should have said 2k fit.
Regarding training hard - Work has other plans for me!

. I have been doing some long distance work and rate 20 work. But I feel I’m maintaining fitness rather than building it. Will push out a couple more 30ks the next two weekends then will see you in Hamburg for the big one!

Great result Anthony, and that wobble near the end looks painful, and shows you were giving it everything

Unfortunately my training has stopped completely last two weeks, as I got ill. Yesterday I had my first session again and it wasn't really promising

Hope I can get back some decent fitness next two weeks. Anyway, looking forward to it and meet you, my virtual team member and many others

Congrats - I set my previous 2k pm near the end of my marathon prep - so while not 2k sharp - I found it helped anyway!

Makes sense for sure. The increased aerobic ability would certainly help.

A new 30r20 PB set yesterday as part of Sub7IRC's February monthly team challenge. No shenanigans with stroke rate or taking advantage of the PM5's generous rounding down... done in exactly 600 strokes

Astonishing stuff. Done a few of this the last month and I have to bust a gut to make 8000m. Looking very solid and bodes well for that 2k attempt.

That's a good strong session, looks like a bit more to come too. Would love to see your HR throughout the session. My best was a 1:44.9 but was the other end of the 40s age group.
Keep it up, these are the sessions that give confidence going forward.

Another day/week another pb.
took 2.4s off my old (375w average) pb
new vs
old
didn't push quite so hard to start, but still really struggling to hold on at the end - tried to bump the rate in the last 100 but everything screamed no.....
65th percentile still by far my "best" in comparison to any other ranked distance.

After a subpar in-person race day 2k performance last Saturday due to a combination of nerves, anxiety, and otherwise self-inflicted pressure, I decided to try and make amends on Wednesday back in the comforts of my garage.
Code: Select all
Time Meters Pace Watts Cal/Hr S/M
6:09.7 2,000m 1:32.4 443 1825 35
1:32.1 500m 1:32.1 448 1841 35
1:33.0 1,000m 1:33.0 435 1797 34
1:32.9 1,500m 1:32.9 437 1802 35
1:31.7 2,000m 1:31.7 454 1862 37
And with that, my ~13 week adventures in 2k training are complete, and I have no desire or plans to do another one for a while. John Davies' plan worked, no doubt about it, but I could feel myself burning out both physically and mentally during the last couple weeks. Took a couple days after my live race to rest and recharge my batteries before the final at-home attempt. Incredibly thankful to have squeezed out the additional few tenths of a second needed to hit my goal. Now, time to make my main training focus to have fun again.
Wow! That is impressive! I like your last statement about having fun again. I have fallen into the trap many times of stressing about a workout , goal or results and then couple that with declining performance in the last few years with age and I often dreaded workouts. This was new to me as I always liked the process and working out in general.

Thanks Stu - yup on the day that was all I had to give; which is sometimes better than knowing there was more in the tank at the end.
