After I realized the CTC yesterday would have been a -0.7s 500m PB looking into the stroke data, I went for a random 1min today during gym session warmup B)
I got a 3m improvement, despite being hit hard by yesterday's training.
Knowing the 500m time from stroke data, I'm tempted to go for a 500 soon :lol:

Not posting much new PBs recently, Kerry is way ahead in doing so :P
The minute is exactly the point of time where I start to fade hard for the CTC, so this let me think I should try the minute to cut off the fade :lol:

Current training is working well. This year my allergies are very mild and not really bothering me at all, despite not taking any medication yet.
Need to update some PBs, now the 500 is on the list as well B)

been very quiet recently - far too many HD's and not enough mental resilience/trying to bite off too much.

I've been wanting to do a 2:05/180W 30min; but just not got it in the tank currently, so this one was paced at 2:06.5 to just get it done.

Based on HR and effort, this was probably 99% max today - maybe could have gone a little earlier at the end.

PB by 55m - set 7 months ago (almost to the day).

Nice row Peter and great to see you back on the forum. Personally I find mental resilience a bit tougher in the summer months when it's so blooming humid.

Happens to me too. Just did a 2K PB and a 500m PB the week after, but today I HD a 1K TT, even if I'm pretty sure I can improve my 1K PB at the moment.

1-2 days of rest, some good sleep and you give it another go.

I don't think that recently having hives, another allergic reaction to a insect bite, or replacing the flooring (carpet with vinyl tiles - with associated furniture moving + erg now setup in a "better" room) & being away for a long weekend has helped my capabilities on the erg the past 6 weeks or so.

The frustration is that this effort is only 0.5s per split slower than a 10k I did straight after I'd recovered from the FM; I feel there should be more there, but there isn't, based on my numerous HD's when attempting this since the end of April.

I think the FM discomfort is so very different I've forgotten how to push through & manage the oxygen debt parts of the pain cave mentally.

I've got three words for you Peter: context, context and context

Your FM training was targeted and incremental, building towards a significant goal so your focus was 'all in'. Now, you've lost that focus (I struggled for a few months after my 12hr session) it can all too easily become your enemy. Days when you pushed through because you had to, subtly become days you fade away or HD because you've already done the hard sessions so surely you deserve a bit of respite and it slowly, unknowingly, can become a habit.

Having allergies and lack of training will be a double whammy as your fitness is something your body doesn't need when your immune system is in overdrive, so that will be lost quicker than the usual already frighteningly fast pace.

The good news is, you've identified it and are frustrated by it. Now, the hard work of the rebuild begins, which will be tough, but always remind yourself you don't want it to be easy, as easy won't make it worthwhile.

Find a new focus, but try and keep it general or wider than just improving a specific distance / time, otherwise you might end up in the same rut. I'd recommend aiming for something longer as you'll get a bit more crossover benefits from it for the shorter sharper stuff too, and you can work your way down with a strong base of longer sessions under your belt (far more manageable than working up).

After completing a FM training cycle (11 weeks) I had hopes to improve my shorter stuff too. I did improve my HM, but not the 500m/1K/2K. It took me another 6-7 weeks of 2K-focused training to improve my 500m & 2K (1K tomorrow, hopefully).

Not sure about how much of this is physiological and how much is mental, but yeah, it's a different kind of pain and I seem to need to practice it, to get accustomed to it.

Kind of sessions that worked for me (4 sessions per week): 8x 500m+3R @ 2KP-4s or 4x 1000m+6R @ 2KP, 3x 1500m+7R @ 2KP, plus one slower but challenging session (e.g.4x (9' @ 2KP+8s +6' @ 2KP+17s +4R) and one long and steady session (like 3x30' zone 2).
RowErg and SkiErg are only physical activities I typically do (no strength work or whatever) and that may be an issue for me as a LW: so during that cycle I tried to do 1000 free body squats at the end of each session. Maybe it helped too.
