Taper week before 2K time trial this week-end, went for a 500m TT to build confidence.
Not a big improvement, but 1:35.3 (from 1:36.6) and much less fly and die than usual. Good 'nough. Hopefully.

After thursdays 10k pb I had the feeling I had to retest my 2k. Well, yes! Current pb was 8:43.3 with a 2:10.8 pace.

Shaved of nearly 10sec:

Time Meters Pace Watts Cal/Hr S/M
8:33.9 2,000m 2:08.4 165 868 26 183
2:10.2 500m 2:10.2 159 845 27 178
2:10.7 1,000m 2:10.7 157 839 26 181
2:07.9 1,500m 2:07.9 167 875 26 185
2:05.1 2,000m 2:05.1 179 915 28 188

I'm really  proud that my consistent training is paying off.
I think I will try the 5k PP after my holiday in july as recommended here.

When it's not a 'big' improvement, it doesn't necessarily mean that it's not big.

Sometimes it's big because you're firing on all cylinders, and sometimes it's, on face value, small but it's actually
just as big because you're so close to your limit that it means a lot more.

Well done 👏

Yeah, because previous PB was 6 months old (tbh, I trained mostly for a FM in between) and kind of underpar compared to my longer stuff like 5K/10K/HM (I'm starting to think that, because age or whatever, I'm sort of better at longer stuff).

Nice row Max. That's a big improvement over 500. Good luck with the 2k.
After having 3 goes at the CTC (624m) this month I also did a 500 yesterday for a new PB by 0.5s. Fly/Die is the only thing that works for me on 500s. In fact I might even try it on a 1k judging that if I can get to 750 at 1:40 pace or less then a big PB is in the bag no matter what pain I"m in!

...I don't see the 5 second difference with Paul's law either - I have a larger gap with the shorter rows and a smaller with the longer.
Apologies for deviation from the thread, but looking at the PBs in your signature, your "Paul's constant" seems to be fairly constant from 500 - 2k at about 8S/doubling. This is higher than I have seen before in a fit rower, but as someone who is generally better at the shorter stuff, I would have expected 6-7S and it is unusual for this to continue below 1k so this might suggest that 500 is relatively "soft". It then varies alot, but is indeed lower. That could be because some PBs are better than others eg 5k (although if there is a change, this could be explained by the change happening between 2k & 5k). I was surprised that it actually increases for your hour which many manage at a pace much closer to their 10k, but as HM is more typical compared to the hour, perhaps your 10k is just particularly good.
Great observations. My 10K was done when I was prob feeling my best and my 60 minutes is old and I never tested it at my best. I also think my scores are a little different in that when doing a lot of PBs I was focusing on the specific distance.

New 10k pb :D

I had the afternoon off and kids are away overnight. I decided to attempt the 10k time trial I planned for sunday after following the 10k plan by RowAlong for 5 month. Well, I was quite nervous as I never tried a real 10k time trial. Although I felt quite rested my HR was way to high starting with 100 pbm :o
Than at 1 km (which didn't feel well at all) my husband called me and I had to quit. After that I tried again. Again pace felt too slow and HR too high. But I didn't want to give up and just rowed on and on. I was pretty sure I wouldn't be able to achieve my goal of a sub 2:20 pace. I just wanted to see how far I could row. But than I sneaked up to the 2:20 and gave nearly everything I could HR being far beyond AT. I ended up with a 2:19.8 pace and 46:36.1 improving my pb by 1:09 minute. Quite proud :D

Time Meters Pace Watts Cal/Hr S/M
46:36.1 10,000m 2:19.8 128 740 23 173
4:45.5 1,000m 2:22.7 120 714 23 163
4:44.1 2,000m 2:22.0 122 720 23 161
4:43.6 3,000m 2:21.8 123 722 23 164
4:41.6 4,000m 2:20.8 125 731 23 172
4:41.7 5,000m 2:20.8 125 731 23 169
4:41.3 6,000m 2:20.6 126 732 23 175
4:39.7 7,000m 2:19.8 128 740 23 179
4:37.0 8,000m 2:18.5 132 753 24 182

4:26.3 10,000m 2:13.1 148 810 25 188
Excellent! What a good strong finish too.

I'm better at longer stuff, too. Not convinced that's based on age. I think it's more related to type of training in the past and muscle conditioning (slow twitch-fast twitch ratio).
I recently improved my skierg 500 by 1.3s in a random try, the last one was 4 month ago. The skierg probably let's me get some greater gains, as I'm kind of newbee at it

Awesome improvement and really strong second half without raising your rating. I think with a bit of work getting used to higher ratings you could be significantly sub 8:30 even without the 5k training!
