Glenn, wouldn't be at all surprised if my stroke was just a bit longer and the force on the handle was pretty much the same for both of us. Next year I think I need to build my stroke up a bit as well.

It was fun to check the board today and see that some of the BPP crew are at the same stage in their training.

Gordon, nice execution and improvement on the 4x800. I have a feeling you'll be able to start your 7000 at 2:15 for a couple thousand meters and bring it home with a gradual negative split to finish at your previous 2:12.

Nick, that 4x800 on 2 minutes rest is tough! If you go out a little too fast on the first 2 you're cooked. Keep grinding, it looks like from your times you're getting stronger.

I'm looking forward to w5.3, 7000 meters tonight. I'm targeting about the same time as the one earlier in the week.

Thanks Luke. Average HR was 141. My HR will drift to about 145 by the end of a 10K and upper 140s on a 60 min row.

Jebus! I have to stick to around 2:08 to keep my HR that low ...and that's at r19!

Not bothering with HR monitoring while on the PP anyway though, apart from on the harder intervals I may use the strap on the last interval to see how close to my max I end up ...or if I may find a new max!

I just recently found this forum thread after LindsayH pointed me to it and will be spending most of my time reading and thinking about the topic rather than contributing, since there is so much new to me here. (Eventually, I hope to participate.)

But I just wanted to comment that "Pie Man" is the first person I've seen in the indoor rowing conversations who is avoiding sugar.

My wife and I saw a documentary on the topic which led to another documentary, and then some lectures on the subject, and then I discovered the website of the husband/wife couple who rowed 2970 miles in 45 days across part of the Pacific Ocean as part of an effort to raise awareness of the danger of added sugar (their website is http://www.fatchancerow.org/ ) and then, I watched interviews with each of them, about their 45 day, 18 hour per day rowing voyage .... and as a result, my wife and I have also been avoiding added sugar for several months now. I've lost about 10 lbs and feel better without all that extra sugar.

Keep it up, Pie Man - you will not regret it.

Read Shawn Baker's sprints thread - I believe he exists on meat and eggs alone! (and is a bit of a monster on the erg)

Pete Plan Week 2, day 3

4 x 2000m / 5:00r

1000m warmup

2000m - 7:36.1 - 1:54.0 - r27
2000m - 7:36.2 - 1:54.0 - r28
2000m - 7:36.4 - 1:54.1 - r29
2000m - 7:32.5 - 1:53.1 - r30

500m cooldown

Holy frickin' batsh1t, batman. That sucked!
I thought 1:54 would happen easily ( 1s slower than 5 x 1500, 1s faster than 5k) and to have plenty left to go harder in the last rep. About 1000m in I thought very differently!
Stupid third rep said 1:54.0 on the row screen but not in the final summary. Managed to hold 1:53 for most of the last but had nothing left to give. Was feeling very low on energy/bloody sugar by the end. Before the end really.
That is a real ba$%ard of a session!!!

Luke, it will get better next time around! You had a lot left anyway judging by last rep. It's a long journey though for sure through 4 of them. Well done really for the first time through.

Thanks @indsayh for the link, useful information, and another solid SS

@Luke, solid 4 x 2k it is brutal, seems to drain everything from you and then expects you to still go one more time.

@Glenn, it seems you now have a plan for a sub 19:00 5k then 1:54 starting pace and then see what is left.

@JoeL what can I say, another solid SS

@John_n Thanks having lost 20kg I do feel so much better and my knees which were beginning to suffer are in much better shape than they have been in years. As Luke says do read the Sprints and Stuff- training/questions 1k and below although it's in the last 2/3 months that Shawn has gone virtually carb free (less than 20gms a day I believe). Thanks for the link, it's good to know that everything is possible without the 'energy bars' a lot of people seem to need. I am not as low carb as they are, but after nearly 2 years without processed sugar I can't see me going back to having any of those sorts of foods again.

Didn't do the waterfall last night, back was better but not perfect so did a 10k @ 2:08.1 Av HR 129 although I did sneak into UT1 at the end as I pushed on a bit.
