Phil, just think if you increased your training to 6 times a day. :)

If I can stay only 2 full seconds per 500 meters behind you, then I should be able to go sub 6:30. I assume that you're going to finish around 6:20.

Greg, you're America's best hope in our event for a medal. Think about that next time you need some motivation. Seriously.

I will be nowhere near 6:20. My goal all year has been 6:29.9 and I'm not sure I can get it. Seconds are precious.

However, I'm guessing that you, only on the erg since September, have some significant improvements yet.

Listen, Greg: You're ranked #1 in the world (in the world!) at every distance from 100 meters to full marathon. Elvis didn't have that many #1s.

You were at 6:32 last month. And you still have two months to go. Mr. Burns would tell you that you WILL DOMINATE AND CRUSH EVERYONE.

Hate to interrupt a testosterone-filled thread, but I can't wait to watch you BOTH row in Boston! I should live so long ( or get a time machine to go back a decade) to see a "6" in front of my 2K time.

A lot can happen in 8 weeks. I wouldn't bet against either of you. Keep up the great work. It helps to hear about all your great training.

Now, back on the ergs, the both of you. :!:

Right, like I needed to add that....

Then Mr. Burns isn't very realistic. And don't forget that you have the top spot for the hour.

Thanks. But there's no glamour in The Hour. Fans love the 2K. Plus, you rowed your 60-minute piece months ago. It's sprinting season now. And you're leading the pack for 2K.

As Deb mentioned for her age group, it's a shame the class is 30-39. Splitting it into 30-34 and 35-39 seems fairer to me. A 30-year-old rower is in his prime. We're not ancient of course. But, often a 36- or 38-year old has many more demands outside training than does a 30-year old -- such as a job, spouse, kids. BIRC's decision to have 30-34 and 35-39 comprises that reality much better.

I'm chiming in to second that thought once more, Jamie.

The CRASH B people were nice when I inquired whether they had considered "the extremely inequitable age range of 40-49", but they have no plans to follow the BIRC just yet. I was told that they had discussed it in Board meetings (members of which, according to the woman who wrote back to me, suffer my unfortunate age range of 45-49 and were sympathetic...)

However, can I just whine for a second and say if you are going to label MY 40-49 age group SENIOR WOMEN, the least they could do is start it at 45! I don't feel like a senior anything, but I sure didn't qualify at 40 and neither should they!

Your comment re: 30-39 life demands outside of rowing is also an excellent point.

Perhaps some of us more persuasive types should take up this cause before next year's race. 10 years is an eternity when trying to maintain the fitness level and power you had at 30 or 40.

Off my soapbox....

The sport seems better supported and organized in the UK.

Sunday
(1) AM: (a) Weights;
(b) 120-minute row: 31,951 meters; 1:52.7 avg; 23 spm = 11.5 m/p/s/; 244.7 watts.

(2) PM (a) strapless 30r23-24: 8060 meters;
(b) minute on, minute off: damper at 9, maximum rate and power.

Well, after a long break through illness, started back to training yesterday! And It didnt go to well. Set out to do the the 70' ergo(2x20) And finish up being a 50'(2x10).

Today was better, had a little more energy and completed a 60'(2x20) But still not firing on all cylinders. But I will get back to full fitnes in a couple of weeks.

I normally do 30' rate 20 at 1.57s, but at the moment can pull 1.57 for 20'

Did 1.59s for 2x20 so not a milion miles away

Hows the prep going jamie you erging machine?

Hey Jamie, what do you think about both of those January plans? It's nice that he gave them both for comparison. And how about that picture of him at the laundromat? :lol: I personally just think he's hilarious between that picture, his language -- "2k full throttle take no prisoners," "and finally come to the final 350m tear the bloody rowing machine to shreds, understood?
XENO," the way he generally expresses himself -- and just his general demeanor. He's a great guy, and entertaining!!

I think I might have some more questions for you about January's training later.

It was solid comedy. I like in the "100k, 200K" video, he says, "I like to keep rowing when I take a water break because I don't want the clock to stop because I'm lazy" [Pauses, makes very serious face and says,] "I'm not lazy! Let's go!"
