Another blast from the past.

The USA entry for the 4-... junior worlds (1970)
I stroked.

The coach in the launch: Bill Stowe, stroke of the Eight that won in Tokyo, 1964.

Are 4- always rigged like that? We rowed 4+ when we broke down the 8.
Often in the straight four...
Even though bow ordinarily toe steers, I got assigned the task.
We pulled pretty straight and seldom had courses w/bends in them...

I tried out for our eight but I was too small (145 lbs)

That could change--_real_ soon.

Yes, it could. If R. Cureton actually ranked pieces instead of spending 12 hours a day trolling this thread. R. Cureton isn't an erg champion anymore, he is an internet troll. Nothing more, nothing less. You've been claiming to do 60 minutes, HM's, FM's and many other pieces "very soon" for about 5 years now. Any chance you could define your timelines for us? When you say _real_soon, does that mean I should check back in a week, or just before you turn 70?

Let me lay it on a little heavy here:

Yes, it could... but there's also the small matter of Rich's inability to get rid of his love handles.. aka RANGER'S SPARE TIRE
Because of Rich's failed flirtation with lwt-dom, he will not post standard times w/standard distances...
Just a wee problem with the feed bag!

Rich

If you want to see some amazing strength workouts - have a look at this.

I have a six pack just like the guy's in the video. Well, mine doesn't actually show, but I'm sure it is there somewhere under the flab.

I did another 20K OTW this morning. It was just above freezing and windy. Wimps and sissies stay indoors and only row when it is warm with no wind. That is no way to prepare for the head racing.

High spirits.

I am having fun.

In competitive sports, it is much more fun to win, be the best, break records, be the best ever, have impossible goals, etc., than it is to plod along in the middle of the pack.

That's no fun at all.

Yea.

That could change--_real_ soon.

The 60s hwt FM WR is 1:54 pace/2:40.

The 60s lwt FM WR is 2:00 pace/2:48.

ranger
In 2001, when I was 50, my FM time was 1:54/2:40, six seconds per 500m (eight _minutes_) slower than the 50s hwt FM WR.

Now that I am 60, my goal is to pull a FM @ 1:48, six seconds per 500m (eight _minutes_) faster than the 60s hwt FM WR.

Quite a swing.

12 seconds per 500m.

It helps to know how to train.

:D :D

It'll only be quite a swing if you do it. There is no eveidence at all that you can even complete a quarter of a FM at that pace. None at all.

Your immediate goal is to worry about taking your 'FM pace' past the 10k mark, something which you currently fall well short of.

How much alcohol did you consume this weekend? I'm curious to know what your tipple is actually.. :P

At 108 df., I row 1:48 @ 25 spm (11 SPI), steady state, with a HR of 155 bpm.

So, distance is no issue, once I get used to running my HR for 2.5 hours at 155 bpm and get fully used to rowing at 108 df.

For me, 155 bpm is middlin' UT1.

My anaerobic threshold is 172 bpm.

Training is coming along great.

A 500m?

O.K.

That might be fun to try.

Max drag, 45 spm, 13 SPI
