Eclipsed my previous best 10K by more than 40 seconds, although I pulled that one more than 17 years ago in 1993.

did you use to row in highschool/college? or have you always just erged?
I rowed from '91-'95 at the University of Rochester. In November I joined a club, so I am on the water on Saturdays and Sundays, and preparing to race again in 2011.

My training plan had endurance training today, but I felt good after a productive day at work. Decided to pull a 1km to see where I am in my "sub 7 2k before New Year" quest.

I wanted to pull 3:18 negative split, starting 1:40 split and then sprinting. It turned out I wasn't so good, couldnt get the split down and struggled to keep it below 1:42 in the end and managed 3:21.0. Still a lot faster than my previous 3:30.3 in May of this year.

Looking at the Concept2 rankings, I notice something strange. Why am I listed as #4 when there are 4 "IND"s and one "C2log" faster than I.

According to Concept2's explanation I shouldn't even be listed with my "IND" rowed in my basement.

Number #4 (or 6, depending on how you count) in the Concept2 ranking Lightweight 30-39. The 1k must be a really unpopular distance. :-)

Times that would have been top 3 last year only get a number this year if they are verified.

Okay, guys, let's get back to some good old-fashioned bragging: My Pop can beat up your Pop!
Oh, rowing only? Sorry!
My PB for the 1K was 3:25.8, which I knew I could improve on. Sunday, while doing a 4:00 O'Neill Fitness Test (did the old Fly & Die, but rowed 1,184m, barely into Excellent territory), I passed the 1K mark at 3:20.1 (RowPro split time)... but I chose to enter the time onto the 4-minute board, not as 2 rows (1K in 3:20.1 + 184m in :39.9). So, I still needed a 1K PB row...
Today, I did a more sensible (no Die, just Fly) 1K, finishing in 3:18.4, moving up from #57 to #28 in my age bracket!

Great jobs on all the recent PBs, everyone!

Yesterday I set a new PB myself: 5K in 17:34.2, 17s better than my previous best from about a year ago. Part of it was simply "daring" to go faster and hanging on, I think.

Merry chain-pulling, and a happy new year!

500 meter pr today, 1:36.3 and i think i could have gone faster becuase my avg at 200 to go was 1:37 and i had a MASSIVE sprint so i think if i went out at 1:35-1:36 i could pull a 1:35, any one have any idea what kind of 2k i could pull off of this?. my old pr (1:38.2) was set a few weeks after pulling 1:48.1 on a 2k so im thinking 1:46-1:47 for a good 2k pacce?

It can be pretty hard to predict 2ks with 500m, because it's such a short distance. Last spring I pulled a 1:29 and a friend of mine was just under 1:31, however he beat me by a couple seconds on a 2k. For me my 500m is normally around 13 seconds faster than my 2k split.

If you have any recent distance trials this site can be useful for pacing: http://www.freespiritsrowing.com/conten ... -predictor

6k today! I hate 6ks.

6000m 22:12.6 1:51.0avg 26spm

Really, really, really hard. Had hoped to break 22:00, but it wasn't going to happen today. Plan was to start out at 1:51s and at 3k bring it down if I could. Average was at around 1:51.2 at the 3k and it was starting to hurt, so I stuck with the 1:51s. At 4k in I started seeing a lot of 1:52s and stopped feeling my legs. Had a pretty fast last 500m to bring the average back down. Really fried, just glad to PR and finish.

Congrats Andy! That is a good time and with your plans for winter, I'm certain you can break 22' very soon. Stay healthy and erg a lot.

5k 19:44.8

When i started I wanted to break 20 minutes. By 2k in I was feeling better than i thought I would so I picked up the pace. I finished strong and felt pretty good at the end. My next goal in the 5k is to break 19:30.
