Beats me.

The hard thing in rowing is to learn to row well and therefore to take good strokes.

I take about 1500 good strokes--every day.

Doesn't matter how I do them, in terms of time over distance rowed.

I just do them.

There is no reason at all to row badly, but continuously, over long distances.

If this is your normal practice, you just train yourself to be bad--permanently.

Sure, what you with your training is your own choice.

And there is only one rub:

We all have to suffer the consequences of our choices.

Enjoy!

The following three quotes give us the essence of Ranger's training thread. He declares he will do a piece to demonstrate the superiority of him and his training methods, and then when the time arrives, he switches to something even more impossible to be done soon:
Ranger wrote: Feb 21, 2011: --snip--1:46 @ 23 spm (12.5 SPI)? I'll give it a try tomorrow morning.
Mike wrote: Feb 25, 2011: Show the 10x2k/1:00r workout Rich. Don't go dodging elsewhere, trying to hide.
Ranger wrote: Feb 25, 2011: I'll do the 10 x 2K sesssion, too. A HM, just rowed right through, is entirely comparable, though, as you demonstrated, and is more exciting to do for me, because I think I can now do the HM @ 1:48, which is under the 60s hwt WR of 1:50. BTW, 1:48 for a HM would be a pb for me. A HM, rowed right through, is not going off to hide.
The pattern is ever thus and will always be. I believe Nav gave a succinct analysis of Ranger's training thread:
You are a fraud's fraud's advisor in fraudulence. You give eels lessons in slimy slipperiness. You make chameleons blush natural tones. Fraud.

But it doesn't "beat" your monitor.
Show the training as recorded there.
Stop being obstructive.

and Byron...
It should no longer stand.

Odd?

Here's an example of "odd"
http://www.c2forum.com/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=5044

Please read all posts on this thread carefully and, to put them in context, realize the following.

As ranger style training has continued, Richard Cureton has been unable to recapture :
#1 : a hammer at Crash-B
#2: a WR (as he once had in 2003)
#3: sub 6:40 as a lightweight

The 2006 exchange w/Larry Gluckman reflects what ranger adopted and still seems to do these days.
primarily: Overdistance w/o sharpening

By ranger's own testimony: since 2003... ranger has not been "fully prepared" for a 2k contest.
I agree with him.

why?..... poor training.... unquantified free-form rows w/o variety and rife with poor analysis...or even no
analysis.
ranger confirms this when he says: "I do not know the times of my training. I do (XXXXX) strokes (that he also does not accurately count...)

IMHO : Do not attempt to follow ranger training unless your main motive is to be primarily an endorphin junkie who DNS's DNF's or handles down most of the time in 2k competition.

read especially:
lgluckma wrote:Ranger,

if speed and lactate toleranace workouts have not been included then an introduction of those types of workouts 3 weeks out is equally important. Maintenance of aerobic systems is critical. However, the volume suggested at the intensity you posted may cause significant fatigue in some rowers that would prevent them for doing adequate anaerobic work.

If you believe that training builds fitness and rest builds performance then a combination of workouts permitting the maintenance of aerobic power and the fine tuning of the ATP and anaerobic portion of the energy system plus sufficient rest would be the goal in this final period. Each athlete must do what they feel the most comfortable and have had the most successful experiences doing.

I appreciate your point of view. Good luck, lg

I did three hours this morning.

Overdid it a bit, though.

I had some cramping this afternoon.

I pushed my biking too hard.

No?

The difference between the two performances is--at least--a dozen seconds per 500m.

IF you can verify it. I'd set the over/under (making the rather large assumption that you actually start and finish the half marathon) at 1:59.
