Happy to do so, as I have in the past.

Technique is only the third most important element of boat speed, though.

If two rowers have the same OTW SPI but one does 5K at 24 spm and the other does 5K at 30 spm, the latter will win by a minute.

Indeed it does.

Achievement at low rates is only significant for those who can't rate up (holding their technique steady).

You just trade rate for pace when you rate up.

You give up your technique.

So there is no need to do so.

Yep.

But every day now, for the rest of the summer and fall.

I will work up to 20K OTW, three loops down the Huron River to Barton Dam--and back.

I will push the rate to 27 spm as much as I can, as I am doing on the erg.

I will erg for 1-2 hours each day before I go out OTW to do the same (as I did today and yesterday).

On the erg, at 27 spm, I do just about Mike VB's 2K race pace: 1:44.

Sure.

But only when I am fully trained.

In my first erg race, I pulled four seconds under the 50s lwt WR.

But I didn't race until I was fully trained.

I will be fully trained OTW when I have done an array of time trials OTW at various distances (20K, 10K, 30min, 6K, 5K, 2K,1K, 500M, etc.) and am doing regular sets of anaerobic intervals--500s, 1Ks, etc.

In 2003 you where "fully trained" after 1 year, now you are 7 years further

To win the Grand Masters (50s age division) at the Head of the Charles, you will need to do sub-2:00 for 3 miles.

So you will have to rate 30 spm rather than 24 spm.

If you can't rate up across the full 3 miles, holding your technique steady, you won't win.

Different projects entirely.

From 2000 to 2003, I just trained myself physically, using the erg, paying no attention to technique.

The result was a lightweight 6:28, at max drag, rowing like shit, pulling 10 SPI.

Since 2003, I have trained myself technically, while maintaining my physical condition.

So now I am ready to see what I can do for 2K on the erg fully trained and rowing well at low drag, pulling 12 SPI.

but, but, but, we soon will see! He must be packing this very instant to go row with Mike in VT and do the Black Fly Regatta this Saturday!

I'll be looking for his name at the top of the results.
NOT!

ah that's why you rowed at max drag this season hahahaha because you "row well at low drag"

Ps I give you an other change to win back the 1000 dollar you own. This is again not an bet, cause for a bet you need two sides. In this you can,t loose anything so it's just a possible gift from my side.

Next to the 2000 dollar you get from me (after you pay all your lost debts  )if you row any of your lifelong goals pointing to a 6.16 2k. I offer you the following:

If you row a PB on a nonathlon distance, with a weigh in at forehand and proven, so in a race or filmed in the batcave, you can substract 100 dollar from the 1000 you own me. For any distance you can win 100 dollar max.
You have to report the row plus evidence here.

I now pull 12 SPI at 123 df.

If you pull around 7 SPI OTW, as Mike VB does, you do:

2:18 @ 19 spm
2:16 @ 20 spm
2:14 @ 21 spm
2:12 @ 22 spm
2:10 @ 23 spm
2:08 @ 24 spm
2:06 @ 25 spm
2:04.5 @ 26 spm
2:03 at 27 spm
2:01.5 @ 28 spm
2:00 @ 29 spm
1:59 @ 30 spm
1:58 @ 31 spm
1:57 @ 32 spm
1:56 @ 33 spm
1:55 @ 34 spm
1:54 @ 35 spm
1:53 @ 36 spm
1:52 @ 37 spm
1:51 @ 38 spm
1:50 @ 39 spm

This would be good stroking for me OTW, too.

So these paces and rates are another set of goals.

I think I will now do these in my Fluid 1x.

These paces and rates are about 19 seconds per 500m off of my erg paces at these rates.

I can never understand statements like this. You have stated as recently as yesterday that you haven't done these sorts of things yet you can say that these are about 19 seconds per 500m off of your erg paces at these rates.

So either you have tried these and you know,

or

you haven't tried these but you think you can do these based on divine intervention,

or

you haven't tried these and then extrapolating from somewhere.

Please enlighten us.
