Ranger's training thread
Re: Ranger's training thread
So in the last week he's promised to show a FM distance trial, a 10k at 1:46/23, and all kinds of stupid calisthenics. Maybe we should focus on one task at a time big fella. Let's start with the FM distance trial. You claim that everything you need to accomplish prior to this piece is in place. No more reason to delay is there? Other than the fact that you can't do it and admitting as much would mean the end of your troll.
I propose we all do ranger a favor and stop confusing him with ancillary challenges. He is clearly addicted not only to the booze, but to this thread. He cannot refrain from answering his critics every 10 minutes. For that reason I propose we eliminate one of the major roadblocks to his completion of the FM distance trial. If we all observe radio silence until we see the screenshot of the FM, he wont have to worry about checking his thread and can focus on pulling this majestic piece. Signing off until screenshot, anybody care to join me?

Rich,
How nice of you not to grace Agganis Arena with your presence. It was a lovely day overall. Now how about some poetry that I feel you could learn from:
"If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you;
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or, being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or, being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise;
If you can dream - and not make dreams your master;
If you can think - and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with triumph and disaster
And treat those two imposters just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with wornout tools;
If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breath a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on";
If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with kings - nor lose the common touch;
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you;
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run -
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man my son! "
-Rudyard Kipling
Unfortunately it seems you can do none of that. But no have no fear, I also know some Catullus that we could dedicate to you

Considering his talent for making enemies, surviving to 60 was an amazing accomplishment, especially after that recent, risky trip to the BIRC.mikvan52 wrote:
Now that he is approaching 61, Richard Cureton is pulling 7:02! When he was 52, he pulled 6:28.
Wow, Rich is one year older than Foss: Amazing accomplishment.

Re: Ranger's training thread
The problem is: If you don't get much work done per stroke and only pull 9 SPI, you go along at 1:59 when you are rating 23 spm, not 1:46.
Oops.

Well, I suppose you could call rowing that, but it sounds more respectable to call it "oarmanship."MRapp wrote:stupid calisthenics

Who's delaying?MRapp wrote:Let's start with the FM distance trial. You claim that everything you need to accomplish prior to this piece is in place. No more reason to delay is there?
I am just building up the meters (and cross-training) from day to day until a FM trial is comfortable and just happens naturally.
I am just getting more and more consistent and relaxed with it.
I do my "Steamrollering" with a HR of 155 bpm.
I do my biking with a HR of 155 bpm.
When I do a FM trial, I will race it with a HR of 155 bpm.
My anaerobic threshold is 172 bpm.
155 bpm is very comfortable.
Middlin' UT1
Top-end UT2 for me is 145 bpm.

Can't do what?MRapp wrote:Other than the fact that you can't do it
A FM?
Ya gotta be kiddin'.
One day, I rowed for 14 straight hours.
I started at 3 a.m. and rowed until 5 p.m.
167K.
I wanted to row for 24 hours but ran out of food.
Toward the end, I tried drinking beer, but that didn't work very well, either.
I would get a little burst of energy and then fade.
I have done 100K in 6:42.
Sure, I can row a FM.
Can I row a FM @ 1:48?
Not sure about that.
But we'll soon see.
When I set my FM pb, I did my 3rd 10K of the 42K at 1:48.
I am much better than that now.

Much like your 2Ks:ranger wrote:I would get a little burst of energy and then fade.

Did you drink beer after the weigh-in?
Re: Ranger's training thread
Rich is this your way of saying "no" to scheduling your demo of 10k @ 23 spm and 1:46 pace?ranger wrote:Mike--
Can you do 50 jackknives?
25 pull ups?
20 extension press ups?
10 one-legged squats with each leg?
If so, post a video for us.
Let's see.
ranger
What gives? Why make idle challenges that are of no substance?
Why not just do as I suggest? (5x 2k/ 10' rests / report with HR)

snowleopard:
Thanks for this excellent illustration of ranger prowess!
In the face of ranger's 12.75 spi claim even his 1st 500 is laughable!
1:40.5 3:23.4 5:13.4 7:02.3
1:40.5 1:42.9 1:50.0 1:48.9
30 spm 29 spm 28 spm 28 spm
11.49 spi for the 1st 500 !
His claim of "running out gas" cannot be used for the 1st 500m of a race when he claims to have 1:25 speed and is rowing at 1:40.5 pace....
To put this in simple terms (so Rich can read along with us):
1:40.5 at 30 spm... Think of how many stokes this is... DO the MAth: x is to 1:40.5 as 30 is to 1:00.
Solving for x:
100.5 x 30 = 60 x
60x = 3015
x = 50.5 strokes (!)
You'd think that the amazing von ManBatt could hold the 12.75 watts/stroke rate ratio for 50 strokes, wouldn't you?
Let's give him a chance to show it.....
Rich?
Want to get in touch with your "inner mensch"?
Put up some numbers....

Re: Ranger's training thread
What is the x-axis for that graph? Doesn't look like meters or strokes. Is it just queried samples from the monitor? Are they really regularly space? Why is it so difficult to label the axis of graphs?mikvan52 wrote:snowleopard:

They are regularly spaced time interval samples governed by race software.Nosmo wrote: What is the x-axis for that graph? Doesn't look like meters or strokes. Is it just queried samples from the monitor? Are they really regularly space? Why is it so difficult to label the axis of graphs?
Re: Ranger's training thread
since you asked,ranger wrote:How about this for an odd suggestion?
When you row, you don't exert force, generate power, and do work with your lungs.
Rowing is a complexly coordinated, rhythmized, integrated, timed, sequenced, and leveraged full-body exercise.
So, rowing is primarily skeletal-muscular, not aerobic.
ranger
As a whole it is wrong, logically flawed, stupid, and designed to get a response. Coming from you, there is nothing odd about it. It is completely in character.
You proved last year, you had an excellent shot at the 60-64 lwt WR. But you lacked the discipline and guts to go for it this year. The problem is not your physical talent, but you haven't had the character or intelligence to preform well in 7 years. It is really quite sad.
Re: Ranger's training thread
Now going back to ranger's bizarre claim:
"I think I'm ready for 10k at 1:46 pace while holding 23 spm"
hmmm:
1:46 = a whopping 294 watts
Let's compare this with ranger professed 1:25 500 speed...? Shall we???
1:25 = a stupendous 570 watts
relationship of the two watt levels:
Power percentage: 1:46 pace is only 51.6% as powerful as 1:25 pace.
Let's call it 52% (absolute value)
Is ranger telling us that he cannot row at 52% of his max 500m power for 5x2k/10' rests...
Evidently!
By Jupiter, He must be living on an out-of-gaseous planet!!!
I think I'll try 5 x 2k/10' rest for this evening's workout anyway... just for "a gas"....

Re: Ranger's training thread
Such a disappointment Rich, not to see you follow through on your verbose commitment.
Was your NO SHOW down to chronic embarrassment and the feeling of knowing that you have become, even, more, intensely, the ridicule of your peers! Why oh why do you persist? Actually never mind that last comment. You have become such a poor parody of yourself that all that you have ever done is now just smoke. You once were and now you are NO-MORE.
A washed up old fool who now has no sense of boundary as to what is normal anymore. Pathetic little man.
The only thing you have of any worth clinging to is memories of a time where YOU once did achieve. Once you got bigger than your boots... well.. the rest is history. Silly old man.
