New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!
Well I'm very happy on 3 counts today 1) my split pacing was very good - even if I say so myself, 2) I increased my pace from 27 to 29 SPM and it paid off in spade loads and 3) I did a 10k warm up first thing this morning for the NARC.
New 6k time of 20:57.8 at an average split of 1:44.8 - 1k splits were;
1k - 1:45.1 - warming up and wanted to maintain a 1:45 split
2k - 1:44.7 - felt quite comfortable with new stroke rate
3k - 1:44.7 - steady progress
4k - 1:44.7 - felt the legs were very strong
5k - 1:45.1 - I was feeling the difference in pace and my heart rate was at 184 (180 max normally)
6k - 1:44.5 - really attacked the last 350m with some 1:32's thrown in!
I have to admit to this being my best row to date (might just be that it was my last row) as I tried something new (upping the rate) and it really paid off

agreed! Good job on your 6K. Your 2K, 10K and 60 min are definitely out of whack with your 6K time! You're inspiring me to try my 6K again. It's been a couple of years now.Nosmo wrote:and a new 30', 10K and 60'! I posted this elsewhere but since this is place for bragging
Did a 10K erg this morning 37:56.9. 1:53.85 ave.
52 seconds faster than previous best last year, and perhaps an all time fastest ( I need to dig out my log from 12 years ago when I last did some reasonably consistent erging before starting up again in sept 06). I may be slightly faster on the erg then 12 years ago, but I am much slower on the bike.
Also set a PR for 30 minutes on the way at 7890m
if I use the average pace it comes to 7905. The final 30 minutes would give a 7920m, but that would be a flying start.

In my experience, those who spend lots of time bragging on their erg scores usually have some other sort of issue that needs to be addressed. Either technical, or mental.
My point, young man, is that nobody wants a braggart in their boat. That's not what rowing is about. I've rowed with and seen plenty of your type before. When the coach mentions a technical problem, you smirk to yourself and think, I'm fine, I'll just pull harder. After practice, you talk with one or two other people, complaining that somebody doesn't belong in the boat and they're not pulling hard enough.
Frankly, BOY, you haven't won s***, you're too young to know s*** and your arrogance displayed here reveals a character flaw that leads me to predict your rowing career won't last much beyond some mediocre time spent in a second or third boat. Oh, I'm sure that some coach at a high-level institution will see your great erg score and get fooled into thinking you're something special. That is, if you have the grades to get in, which I doubt. However, you will get beaten in seat races by men who are quiet, row well, match up with the crew and are 20 seconds slower than you on the almighty erg. Your coach will shake his head, try to put you in the varsity, and give up after losing a few races.
This blog is a forum to talk about rowing, coaching and exchange ideas. Not anonymous spray-painting on the walls. But here's the part where you prove what kind of person you are: You'll do one of three things.
1) Slink off, thinking "what a loser, I don't need to prove anything to him." When we're all thinking the same thing about you.
2) Post some sort of childish retort, complete with the phantom races that you've won, but keeping your school/name out of it. Kind of like how you DO have a girlfriend, but she just goes to another school. And you don't want to tell anybody her name.
3) Grow up, say I'm sorry about coming off like as ass. Go talk to your coach and honestly ask him how you can make your *team* better. Realize that there will ALWAYS be somebody with a faster erg score and you'd better figure out how to make the boat move and move with your teammates. Somehow, I doubt this will be the end result.
Don't come in here bragging about being a big dog, son. The only bragging that goes on here is about somebody's TEAM. If you want everything to be all about you, then you're in the wrong sport.
Besides, it's my blog, so by definition, I'm the BIGGEST DOG THERE IS.

Nice one Nosmo!
You also know you can improve that 30 min result anytime you want.
I decided to have a go at my 2k today
Just because I know I have done nice improvements in training and I just did not want to miss the opportunity to post a sub 7 time. So in the gym, I had a go without causing to much pain. 6.57 - 32 spm. It was not max but I still had no sprint in me for last 500.

Hi everyone,
I rowed a new personal best yesterday on the 10 k. 44:04.7
The 10 k was the only distance, where my ranked workout was in the range 0f 84 % compared to the rest. Now it is 69 %. My other ranked workouts were already in the range of 64 %. So 10 k was an easy target to row a personal best on.
But I feel sorry for myself today. My body seems to be completely ruined by the effort.
I think it will take some days before I feel fit again.
It is often like that when I am not preparing myself and caring for myself after the rowing. I am no longer 18 years old.

Ive been training little this year but thought I would pull a decent lwt 500m. After some specific sprint training (as in sprint sprint, not 2000m "sprint") I pulled 3 or 4 consecutive strokes at 1:13, which is a pace I've never held before. Weight 76kg. 1:13 = 882w - 918w so I probably snuck over 900w for one of the strokes. Need to lose a kg for that to be any good though

Always great to read about other peoples PBs. Helps keep the rest of us motivated. When you have been rowing long enough, it gets harder and harder to get faster.
Set 2 years ago, I had been most dissatisfied with my previous 1k PB at 3:22.6. Although I had set this during an exciting online race, I felt that I had blown up at the end of the row. My excuse had been that I had dieted to make light weight finally on the day of that race, and that process had taken something out of me.
So it was nice to get around to redoing this row. New PB: 3:18.6. Not sure how much faster I can be than that, but I will wait till next year to find out.

Actually the first part of that thread where the coach breaks down the approach to a 2k is a gem and is good to read before a 2k test! The blasting of the Anonymous poster was a bit over the top, but at the end of the day the Coach's thread was about approach to a 2k test, and Anon's response was an out of place brag that did not add to the discussion. I don't think Coach would chastize us for posting PB's in this PB thread -- besides I think our focus in this thread is more on improvement made rather than absolute value of scoreNosmo wrote: Whenever I set a PR I go back and read this from http://launchexhaust.blogspot.com/2007/ ... -test.html
