Hand pain

Post by jskingry » February 5th, 2008, 10:07 pm

Hello all,
My wife has been rowing about 5k a day since the beginning of January and has developed some bad hand pain. Her hands are very slender and long and the pain she says is in her main hand not the fingers and what she describes sounds like tendon pain. Can anyone suggest any sort of gloves or handle change that might make it a little less painful for her while rowing.

Thanks,
Jeremy

Not sure if it's the same thing that was happening to me, but, I was getting hand pain also and found out that I was gripping the handle too tightly. I found that if I loosened up my grip somewhat, the hands stoppped hurting.

It turns out that it's easy to over estimate how much of a grip you really need. I slowed my pace down at first, to encourage the loose grip and then slowly built back up to my old speed, concentrating on NOT increasing grip strength with speed.

Keeping your wrists relaxed and straight also helps. (at least for me it did)
