rest and recover - training requires a body with the capacity to build in response to a stressor - the cold will be consuming that capacity - after a few days start light and build over 2 - 4 days - THEN work

Train Don't Strain ~ Think or Sink
The training manual on the UK site does have some marathon training programs, but they are based on running. They are worth reading but I would not follow them. I don't think they do nearly enough long rows. Running is really abusive on the body so one has to limit the distance runs, but there is no reason one can not work up to 30 to 35 K rows once or even twice a week, or even do full marathons before the event.
It is really important to figure out how to eat and drink during your row. So the long rows are good practice for that.
