We had erg test in the club this weekend:
2k on saturday, and 1k on sunday with the vets.
PB'd both:
2k in 6:45,9 (3,4 secs off my previous BIRC-time)
1k in 3:15,1 (2,7 sec off the previuose one)
B)

Feels great, after a long time with no PBs. :D

Nice work! You mean the weights in "the yard"?

Planning on BIRC this year?

And pV8, Trading some weight for Pace? Well done! B)
Did you use a similar rate and pacing strategy?
PaulS, rate for the 1.17.2 was r45, 12 hard strokes hitting a low split if 1.03 for 2 strokes but fading very badly in the last 100m.

This was corrected with much better pacing on yesterdays 500m attempt, I hit a 1:03 low split again but paced the remaining meters much better. Yesterdays 500m was a best score for me, 500m 1.15.9 r45.

I am going to concentrate on short course distances while I have the muscle power to do so. I will be aiming for a sub 1.14.5 5000m.

That last 100m is always quite an experience when on the edge of shutdown.

500 meter down from 1.53.5 to 1.43.9 (rowing for 2 weeks, desk job and dito shape)

Most of you pull this off with one hand behind your back, but I'm happy :D. Never thought those last 200 meters could last so long...

Ancho congratulations my friend. That's a good improvement. At last you are (really) rowing

Good row Gerhard...enough room for improvement.

Greetings,

I know my time is not that great compared to others, but it is a best for me. I used to row in high school at 125 pounds, and my best then was 8:25 2k (around 1993).

I picked it up again 2 months ago (and 20 pounds heavier then high school), and about 6 weeks ago rowed 8:35. Today, after steady 4-5 days a week on the erg, I hit 8:17.4.

Again, not shattering any records, but I am somewhat pleased that my training has paid off a little. Admittedly, part of it is not just the fitness, which has increased quite a bit, but also just being able to stand the pain of pushing yourself that hard.

Thanks! I was hesitant to post at first since it is still fairly slow but I sensed people on the forum were quite supportive of each other.

I just rowed a 2:16 for 500m! I just injured my shoulder so this is an absolutely fantastic time for me. My PB for 500m is 1:51, so I'm working to get back to that and drop those forty seconds. I felt like celebrating that I can row at all. :D

1:33.7 for the 500m, a 2.5 second improvement over January.

Bumped me up from 30th to 19th in the LW/40-49 class. Pretty happy with that, considering I usually only row an average of ~10k to 30k per month. Plus I live at 4,500 feet.

Three new PBs in the last two weeks (in the order done):

10k: old pace 1:57.1 new pace 1:56.0
30 min: old pace 1:54.4 new pace 1:53.0
60 min: old pace 1:57.4 new pace 1:56.0

Obviously, the 10k should be faster. I believe all should be faster since my 6k pb was holding 1:49.2. Still, I am a much better sprinter than distance rower so I'm pleased with the progress!
