Potential as a rower

Post by Pat » March 14th, 2007, 6:07 pm

I am wondering if I should consider going into rowing in college. I just recently started rowing and have only rowed about 15,000 meters total. I recently set one of the records for my age at the 500 meter(still need to send in the tape) I did it in 1:43.9. I like rowing a lot. I have been playing soccer for the past 8-9 years and played basketball for a couple years. My dad thinks I would be good enough but I am not sure.

Take good athleticism into a college rowing program and they will work with you.

Seems odd that you would be a Lightweight teenage girl (only way I see a 1:43.9 as being a "Record", World Record presumably), with a background in basketball, but I'd say go for it.

Apologies for my incorrect assumtion.
13 year old boys are already thinking about their college sport and have 9 years of soccer under their belts?

I'm amazed!

Are you graduating early?

If there is a Rowing program in your area, it may be worth checking out. Our Junior program accepts 13 year olds and many of them continue in college and do well.

Nice work on the 500m. B)

Thanks. I started playing soccer at 4 and have really enjoyed it. As far as rowing for college, I don't see any harm in planning ahead.

Im in a university rowing club and its pretty fun. I live down south so its nice and warm (now it is) too.

You should follow anything you like to do... whether its academics, football, or rowing etc.

But... if you are interested in rowing, go ahead and put in even more meters! (Try to keep it fun... many refer to ergs as torture devices... they take all the fun out of rowing in many people's opinion) In college, we row that (15000 on the water and erg) or more in two days. And remember, for men rowing is a club sport nation wide, i.e. not NCAA.
