rowing every other day

Post by clksrus » January 19th, 2007, 8:01 am

Will rowing every other day, (7-10k meters), keep one in good shape and improve times? This is not at a leisurely pace. This is as opposed to 4-5 times weekly routine. I don't plan on racing this year.

Its a hell of a lot better then doing nothing, and will keep or get you in reasonably good shape. It would be roughly equivelent to running or swimming 30 to 40 minutes, which is what a lot of people do. In terms of general health some studies have said that the optimal amount of excercise burns about 3500 cal per week. You'll probably be a bit below that. It is not enough to be competative, which is very different from being healthy.

If you want to be really fast then it is not enough. Your times will level off after a while but with really smart training it will take you a long way.
