I've attached a 3/4 inch U-bolt to the chain, the spring link to that, and can easily switch between the rope handles and the regular one.

The rope has a workload of 75 pounds, and a strength of 500 pounds. I've gotten a nylon rope that has workload of 90 pounds and a strength of 600 pounds.

The 1" handles are working very well. I did 4x 60s with 15s rests this morning, faster than 3 days ago with the regular handles. I'm going to replace them with 1 1/2" handles as soon as I get them.

If anyone else tries this let me know. :)

I've fashioned a couple of handles from rubber drain tubing and will try them out in the morning.

These work in the manner of the regular handle, except divided, far more flexible, and attached with the rope.

Then I'm planning to get larger tubing, and to take another picture of them.

rubber handles

Post by johnlvs2run » June 17th, 2006, 12:47 pm

The rubber handles work great!

I'm going to get some bigger ones, and stronger rope, though this arrangement is already excellent as it is, much better than the regular handle!

rubber handles

Post by johnlvs2run » June 22nd, 2006, 6:53 pm

These are the handles with a 1 1/4 inch outside diameter, and nylon rope with a strength of 600 pounds and workload of 90 pounds. The rubber handle comes from reinforced pvc disposal hose, a cost of $2 for 2 feet at Home Depot.

These handles have some flex in them, which I prefer to using pvc handles with no flex.

When using these, my hands are almost together through the stroke, then come to the sides of my chest at the finish.
