I'm new too, so I agree that this is important. New members are equally responsible to have integrity, especially since they are joining a new community. To see someone's logbook, they have to make it public. So you just need to click it (in the android app, Windows, or Linux). Then you'll be able to see if there's anything fishy, but the concept2 folks are the ultimate deciders. If you see any more of this behavior, feel free to shoot them an email, and they'll look into it.

Good on you mate.Ruin Christmas wrote: ↑June 4th, 2025, 9:09 amThanks, it did! They both had their logbooks visible. One guy rowed 1.7 million meters in a day. The other was a gym and had the different members' names who did the rows in the comments.JaapvanE wrote: ↑June 4th, 2025, 7:01 amThat was really nice of you. I hope this makes you feel better.Ruin Christmas wrote: ↑June 3rd, 2025, 10:49 pmWell I already ratted on 2 people ahead of me and C2 DQed them, so I may be a grifter and a snitch, but I'm doing my part.
If you see anyone else like that, be sure to contact Concept2, as they are concerned with keeping integrity of their competitions.
Its not until you row your guts out trying to get a decent placing will people understand.
Altogether its way to hard to police, C2 just need to clean it up with open logbooks and verified only meters.
The breach of privacy thing is a just a joke, people splatter their whole lives over Facebook and yet they have a problem with you seeing how many meters they are ACTUALLY rowing ?
C2 introduced the verification code now way back in 2003, its time they started using it across the board. The PM5 and ErgData now makes it so easy to get verified rows, there are no longer any excuses.

Re: Why Have Unverified Results On The Rankings?
I am at a decent placing. Globally ranked 292th for distance rowed in 2025. I consider the distance, but I don't care if I'm first or last on any ranking, as there is nothing to be gained by moving up or down the ladder. I'm a dozen places behind a good friend, so coming closer to him (perhaps by joining his sessions) is a goal, but who cares what the people above me do. Number one in the world rowed over 50K a day. Tough act to follow, a bit unlikely, but who cares. I don't have to boost my ego by pushing others down.Carl Watts wrote: ↑June 4th, 2025, 11:41 pmIts not until you row your guts out trying to get a decent placing will people understand.
Concept2 released the specifications of the verification code message only on 8-8-2023 as part of the CSAFE spec. The message (0x003F) probably existed, but wasn't published yet. In the 2002 BLE spec it is still missing. And use of it isn't mandatory yet, so any external app doesn't have to do this. Based on experience with testing OpenRowingMonitor with every app on the market I can tell you, nobody is checking the verification code, not even C2 themselves.Carl Watts wrote: ↑June 4th, 2025, 11:41 pmC2 introduced the verification code now way back in 2003, its time they started using it across the board. Re: Why Have Unverified Results On The Rankings?
Don't know why this is so important to some people, but for me the easiest solution from c2 side would be to add only verified meters to any challenge and dump the others. So the user can log whatever he wants for his own purposes and all rankings and challenges would only show verified meters.
All people rowing on very old monitors not providing verification codes, couldn't participate in rankings and challenges, but I assume these would be a minority since most of the rowers in use are providing monitors which at least give a code (despite not being able to connect to any app).

Re: Why Have Unverified Results On The Rankings?
The number of people still using a PM1 or PM2 is tiny. Had I not been repairing them for the last 17 years over here, they would all be pretty much dead by now.Sakly wrote: ↑June 5th, 2025, 4:01 amDon't know why this is so important to some people, but for me the easiest solution from c2 side would be to add only verified meters to any challenge and dump the others. People still using old stuff is not an excuse for moving on.
New Zealand is shutting down the 3G Mobile network at the end of this year, are a few dozen people on an old phone going to stop that happening??????
Time to get a 5G phone that still has 4G on it.
I'm all for keeping old stuff going, but not to the detriment of the other 99% of users who want a verification system.

Re: Why Have Unverified Results On The Rankings?
I like unverified rankings.
Unverified gives vandals something to wreck while leaving 'verified' pretty good for data mining. When new to erging it was nice to look at verified to see where the 50% and 75% percentile rowers lived.
Mike C's comments re: the top few rowers seem right. No way to use rankings to really see top rowers without independent research.
Given anyone can use ErgRace (example, a high school coach for a team competition), if ErgRace results come in as "race" results then they'll never be discoverable using google search.
I suspect that if unverified got removed people would put slop in verified. It's easy to get around verified if all you want is superman level results, but we don't need a discussion of that here.

Re: Why Have Unverified Results On The Rankings?
Most of my rows are not done for a set time before starting, as I sometimes will go longer or shorter. For a 'Just Row' you can't get a verified time, which makes sense, but I still like to enter my times. I sometimes see where I'm at, but I definitely take it with a big grain of salt. I am not particularly fast, but I find it fun to see sort of where I am in the list of people in my category.
For those who are near the top, then verification is more important.
I think there are some people who aren't so honest, but I also believe the vast number of people who enter their times here are honest.
Yes, it can be frustrating to see times that don't seem correct, as I want everyone to be honest, but it doesn't really matter.
