In-ear or Open-ear buds for ZoomErgo training

Post by pjago » February 3rd, 2025, 2:22 pm

I'm looking for recommendations for ear buds to be used with online training sessions run by ZoomErgos where a group of rowers sign up to a variety of ergo sessions. I need to be able to hear the instructions/coaching from the session leader over the fan noise during sessions and also use the microphone ability of the ear buds if leading sessions. Are in-ear buds the only way to go to overcome the noise of the fan or would open-ear buds work? I'm looking at Soundcore ear-buds purely as I have one of their smart speakers. Thank you.

I use a cheap active noise-canceling full headset.

It eliminates the fan noise and most of the chain noise. Both listening and speaking, so you can converse with and/or coach others while wearing it.

Can't comment on the quality of being able to remove the fan noise from the mic as I don't do interactive sessions; but I can say that decent noise cancelling in-ear will block out a lot of that noise.

I use a pair of 1MORE Penta Driver Hi-Res Headphones <-- wired not wireless as I cba to worry about recharging things, and I am a lot less likely to lose them. They have a built in mic too, as I use them for my work calls as well as music.

Without blasting my eardrums I can negate pretty the external fan to nothing, and the erg fan to a background swish on the drive.

I went for monitor style ones as well, so that they were less likely to fall out once I got sweating - as a previous just in ear brand's ones did.

I use cheap, but very good quality earbuds, similar to the Soundcore ones you mention. They do seem to be decent at noise cancelling, but still able to hear some other external noise if needed.

It's hard to say definitively that they're suitable, but I think that they will be.

Here's watch Soundcore Support said: The AeroFit Pro open-ear headphones are designed to allow some ambient noise to seep in, which can be beneficial for staying aware of your surroundings. However, this design may not be ideal for environments with high background noise, such as when using a rowing machine with a fan. The AeroFit Pro does not have active noise cancellation (ANC) and may not effectively block out the noise from the fan.
On the other hand, in-ear buds like the X-20 might provide better noise isolation, which could be more suitable for your needs during rowing sessions. In-ear buds typically offer a more secure fit and can help block out external noise, allowing you to hear coaching tips more clearly and use the microphone effectively during sessions.
If noise isolation and microphone clarity are priorities for your rowing sessions, you might want to consider the in-ear buds like the X-20. If you have any more questions or need further assistance, feel free to ask!
