Rowsandall and painsled

Post by Rfarkash » December 8th, 2024, 9:26 pm

Hope this is the right sub forum - if not please move as needed…

Looking to start analyzing my data a little more systematically to see what’s working and not. Tried the premium version of rowsandall and really liked it - easy to compare across time, look at metrics, etc, but realized some of the things I wanted to look at (stroke length, max force, force curves, etc) did not come through. Researched it a bit and seems like I need to use an app like Painsled to get all this data since ErgData shows it but doesn’t record it - is this correct? If so is Painsled still the preferred interface, or are there newer/better ones? Looks like Painsled not actively supported anymore…
Thx
Ron

That is correct (and a huge missed opportunity by Concept2).

Haven't seen an alternative (I use OpenRowingMonitor next to my PM5, and it has a direct file creation for RowsAndAll.com). But you can drop Sander (one of the owners of RowsAndAll) an e-mail, he is always very responsive.

Great idea - will email Sander/Rowsandall directly.
Thx

Hi, ErgData synchronizes to the Concept2 Logbook. From Rowsandall, you can import workouts from Concept2 logbook.

I think the key issue of OP is that much of the data (like peak and average force, drivelength, drivetime etc..) are shown by ErgData but not stored in the C2 Logbook, and thus can't be analysed in RowsAndAll. PainSled allowed to record this data and upload it to RowsAndAll, but it seems to be unsupported.

ErgZone comes to mind, but I don't know if they save much data and upload to RowsAndAll...

Exactly my question and issue - thanks for saying it better than I could!

Would love to be able to analyze force curve, drive length etc from ErgData instead of having to go through Painsled or boatcoach. Since those apps can record the data from PM5 assuming it wouldn’t be a huge leap to have ErgData export natively. I’m sure plenty of other data nerds would happily pay for a premium version of ErgData if it had this functionality.

ErgData isn't the issue, it just has to record what it already gets. It is Concept2's backend that collects and stored the data that is limiting it.

Aside my PM5 I use OpenRowingMonitor, and we can send in RowsAndAll native dataformat to RowsAndAll (and I am working on integrating it), and we can send in much more detailed fit-files to Garmin, etc. As the processes are automatic, I can row and upon completion I can see the result directly.

It wouldn't be that complex for Concept2 or a third party to do the same (as the PM5 has no WiFi, it still needs some app). They just need to record what the PM5 broadcast and 90% of the data is there. But Concept2 should really up their game here. Competing manufacturers (RP3, SmartRow) are miles ahead in their native data analysis platform.

Does the paid version of ErgZone have the data that you're looking for?

the paid version of ErgZone does store drive length and force curve.
It's worth mentioning that not all PM5s support force curve through Bluetooth, it has to be PM5v2 or higher. The v2 are the ones with the green C2 logo.
Also ErgZone has a 1 week free trial when you choose the in-app monthly subscription and it will allow you to analyze the data in the app or in the admin website https://admin.erg.zone/
