I'm a 76 year-old male who uses a C2 Model D with PM3 computer 2 or 3 times a week to stay in shape. I mix it in with a treadmill and a recumbent bike.

30 minutes
6252 Meters
117 Watts
346 "True" Calories
8.6 Mets
VO2 Uptake 30.1 ml/kg/min

Not a PB but I feel good about it.

Thank you very much! I completely agree; I'm definitely going to test sometime in the very near future. I have some flexibility over the next week to pick the day / time that I feel best to make the most of it. Here's to some kind of PR soon!
Please make sure you do. I tried to beat the 100k British record but I let my ego dictate my decisions beforehand and I still thoroughly regret it. I really want to minimise the amount of people that make the same mistake. Time is precious and your future isn't promised.

Doing anything other than walking, or possibly just existing, is an effort for most 76 year olds, so you definitely need to be very proud of this. I know I would be if I'm still erging at 76.

After the 1k and gym session of yesterday I thought it could be a bit draining today, but the session felt really good.
Increased the drag a little bit to 117 and rowed blind again, only remaining time and HR visible.

CTC first attempt today.
Warmup 5k without fan to really get into it and get a sweat.
First 3k more like UT2/1, then gradually ramping up with some bursts at target pace.

Code: Select all

Time	Meters	Pace	Watts	Cal/Hr	S/M	❤️
18:58.1	5,000m	1:53.8	237	1117	21	154
4:00.8	1,000m	2:00.4	201	990	20	142
3:53.6	2,000m	1:56.8	220	1055	21	150
3:50.0	3,000m	1:55.0	230	1092	21	155
3:39.1	4,000m	1:49.5	266	1216	23	164
3:34.7	5,000m	1:47.3	283	1273	24	163
Then some bodyweight stuff, stretching and deep breathing for 10min or so, before I went for the 1k:

Code: Select all

Time	Meters	Pace	Watts	Cal/Hr	S/M	❤️
3:08.0	1,000m	1:34.0	421	1750	35	171
0:36.6	200m	1:31.5	457	1872	33	168
0:37.2	400m	1:33.0	435	1797	34	171
0:37.6	600m	1:34.0	421	1750	35	172
0:38.3	800m	1:35.7	399	1672	36	172
0:38.2	1,000m	1:35.5	402	1682	38	173
I miss a bit raw power at the moment, so my starting splits are slower compared to my PB, but I was only 0.2s off from it.
Not fully recovered from my little illness/cold, so satisfied with the result for now.
2k cooldown

Code: Select all

Time	Meters	Pace	Watts	Cal/Hr	S/M	❤️
8:15.0	2,000m	2:03.7	185	935	18	142
Great result! The 1K has always been my best distance.....wasn't really thinking about doing a 1K TT right now but I may have to give it a go.

Thx Keith!
You definitely need to go for it!
I'm waiting for all the big guys pushing me down the list
Currently on 6th position, but it won't last long...
I hope to improve until end of the month, so I can climb up a bit, but many big guys did not rank a score yet.

The kind words and insight from your experience is truly appreciated. The time comment is timely (pun intended) as I actually got word I'll be able to head home in a few days so I am on a limited schedule to do something before leaving where I am, but frankly I am more excited to be home with my wife and boys than attempt any kind of PR right now. I am still going to try something in the next few days to make sure I don't leave an opportunity on the table.

11/6 - Easy aerobic work. 60 mins incline treadmill walk, 3.3mph, 12% incline, 10 kg weight vest. HR was back in check to where it was; I did sweat a lot but I attribute that to it being a tad warmer and much more humid this morning, and the fact I was on the treadmill in a hooded sweatshirt as opposed to shorts and a T.

I got word from work that I will be able to head home within the next few days; not sure how long I'll be home before having to travel again but very much looking forward to being home for whatever time period it is. It's been a long 5 weeks. My boys have already made lunch plans for the day I get back (they said no mom allowed - just a guys lunch); considering it was their idea, I am excited to make it happen. I owe my wife a nice night out as well though as it's our 10 year anniversary tomorrow which I am not going to be back in time for. I haven't checked the weather too closely since I left but looking at it now, morning temps are in the high 40's to low 50's with relatively low humidity. I know it will take a couple of sessions on the erg to feel comfortable again but going back to nice training weather is exciting as well.

Woke up this morning and my Fitbit told me my Readiness was 18 - low. Rowed anyway. Got a 30-minute PB. (6430 meters; 128 Watts) 82nd percentile for my age (76). Gee, I wonder what I could have done if I was rested.

Training is certainly high on my list of priorities - I feel like a healthier, fitter, and happier me makes me a better husband, better dad, and better employee. I am looking forward to getting home for at least a bit.

Haha, they know how it's going to be a nice lunch

Congratulations! :)
Thank you! Funny enough, my boys despite being a bit young, have a great taste in food - my older's favorite thing to eat is sushi with steak being a close second; my younger's favorite thing to eat is steak with steak being a close second, third, etc. I gave them the options of the local sushi place we go to (they make steak and other hibachi dishes) or a local Brazilian steakhouse but they are going to decide amongst themselves and then the three of us will be going. Probably the highlight of the weekend!

My wife and I have known each other going on 30 years at this point...went to elementary, middle, and high school together...and have been together for a very long time but didn't actually get married until 2014. We knew we would be together so didn't feel any real pressure to "make it official". There's a couple of the nicer places in the casinos where we live that she's been wanting to try; we made our trip to HI over the summer a bit of an early celebration but will find a night this week where the kids don't have activities and end up getting a nice dinner.
