Well, I did a 10k today and tried some things out.
Turns out (I hadn't paid any attention to it earlier) that I also don't use my thumbs. I keep them right next to my index fingers on top of the bar. If I put them on the bottom I squeeze too hard.
I found that it does help to keep my elbows as straight as possible during the first part of the drive, I now think I bent them a little bit and that's what's causing the quick fatigue.
It's very hard for me because my shoulder joints are a bit hypermobile. So I need quite a lot of muscle tension in my shoulders to keep them from dislocating. I can't just relax them during the drive.
So it's hard to keep the shoulders tense and the elbows relaxed, but I think I got a bit of a consensus today.
I'll keep working on it, but this is definitely an improvement.
So thanks again for all the pointers. Much appreciated.

Great report. Interesting about your shoulders. Perhaps some isolated deltoid strengthening would help.

Get some old trousers and cut out straps from pant legs. Get it?
