Looking back at Week 1 - Session 2 - 6x500 m
and yesterday Week 2 - Session 2 - 4x750 m
Both 4 min warm up + 2 min resting prior to series.
I understand that HR may fluctuate. Conditions were the same in my opinion, with even SR rate slightly higher and longer interval . So I wonder if only 1 week BPP can result in such improvement. Only positive !

However HR does fluctuate depending on life factors, temperature etc. so you may find that this pace is not always appropriate, but definitely a good ballpark so long as you recover quickly enough for the next session.

I'd be very surprised if your HR dropped that much after one week. One of those sessions HR readings isn't reliable imo, but never let the truth get in the way of a confidence boost

Agree with Stu. Are you using an HR belt as sometimes watches can under record. You should definitely find these more challenging, how did you feel during them, were you struggling to maintain the pace towards the end of the last couple on intervals?

Using Polar H9 from the start. Yesterday was more challenging at the end of each interval (last 1 min) and I tried to better my technique to alleviate the challenge. Week 1 6x500m was a harder than Week 2 4x750m.Unread post by iain » October 2nd, 2024, 12:28 pm

Week 1 may have been an erratic recording due to unknown reasons and I will discard it from my progression.

After a couple of days of being off-colour today I felt good so back in the saddle.
Week 5/3 -- 7000m UT1 (120-130 bpm)
The W4 6500 UT1 workout came in at 2:12.4 so this was a bit of a drop in pace, with hr drift from 4000m. Maybe not firing on all cylinders then. But I expect UT1 pace to settle at about 2:15 at 10000m so not too disconcerted.

On week 8 now but I did the intervals first (on Monday)as I wasn't feeling up for the longer row.... yesterday was 8.1 and I really just went really easy... probably a bit too easy so I added a few extra metres and also had a small session on the bikeerg too.
I'm finding when I go to 2:15/500 I feel like I lose alot of my strength and will struggle to maintain it even though I don't feel like I'm doing too much physically......I just need to get fitter I think
I'm in the US from Sunday for a week so I'm really praying that my hotel has a rower. Also off to the US for a month from start of November and I'm worried this will also cause me rowing challenges. I may just have to keep my fitness levels doing other things and pick it back up again in December

I have the same issues when away next year but found a hotel with a Technogym Rower at least. I've used them before and pace is similar to the C2 but not as accurate. The user interface is terrible though.

There is a huge difference between 2:15 pace and 2:30 (over 1/3 more watts). Pete used to say that you should finish SS rows feeling that you could repeat them immediately if you had to, they are intended to allow recovery (although the BPP accepts that many will find the distance hard and so eases off with only gentle intervals in the early weeks, several weeks in these should have become much less taxing). My work gym has a Stairmaster, it's absolute garbage. Looks identical to a Concept, with different stickers plastered on. 2:30 really does feel easy - I was hardly sweating until I went for it abit more in the last 500m....also I haven't been warming up before a row so maybe I should also start incorporating 5 min of easy rowing before I start the session
