Congratulations, really strong performanceRWAGR wrote: ↑June 5th, 2024, 10:38 amNew 30 min PB: 8,182 at 1.49.9. This was an improvement of 62 meters. Interestingly, it was the highest HR I have seen (183). THis felt really at my max, but is only 2.9" slits faster than my 60 min PB. Does "Paul's Law" breakdown at longer distances? I'm aware that it's only ever an estimate, but this seems way off as definitely didn't have another 2 splits in me!

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!
My recent PB on the SkiErg HM is also an American Record in my Age Group. The last record stood since 2018. I accomplished this on May 26, 2024. I have also recently accomplished the 100k SkiErg challenge when I wad 69.
I had been training for the Spartan Deka Ultra and began noticing a pain in my left hip. After getting it checked out (moderate arthritis all around and fracture to femoral head) a hip replacement is now scheduled for Sept.
But golly gee...I can still SkiErg!
Note: next goals are SkiErg FM Ametican record and another 100k.

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!
I use the extended Paul's Law where doubling distance adds a constant amount to your pace. This varies from 3-7S depending on the person and the training they do. I think the original formulation was more to do with where to focus training and I suspect was aimed at younger athletes. As many don't do the strength training that might optimise their 2k, but do the distance and other endurance work, the "Paul's Constant" tends to drop. I have also found that it is only relevant 1-10km, drops noticably to HM and then increases.nick rockliff wrote: ↑June 5th, 2024, 5:21 pmPaul suggested it was double the distance and add 5 secs to your avg. You did your 30 min in 1.49.9 so he would say the 60 min should be 1.54.9.
It also should only be applied from 2k upwards and everything should be in the same training period.
I always go by double the distance and add 3 sec which is about where you are.

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!
Total noob in week 9 of the beginner Pete Plan, 55M, started week 1 with 2:40 pace
On my 1st 8k two weeks ago I improved to a 2:14
Today I did my 8k in 2:08
I'm very impressed with the rower and the muscles it's torching as at first it was my calves but as I've fixed my technique it's moved to my thighs, then butt, then back, and now I'm getting tweaks in my lats.
My thanks to the community here & dark horse videos as I've been able to self coach myself into a haystack power curve so now I think I'm at the refining stage and then build strength.
I have a torn meniscus in both knees and a herniated disc, so jogging is out and rowing has been a real Godsend. I'm thinking of adding the SkiErg.
Anyway thanks to the great community!

Wonderful stuff, the best advice I can give, other than the obvious technique dialogue, is nutrition. Getting enough of the right food in has really helped me come along. I am 6 months in and also loving it, truly the best investment I’ve ever made!GrussGott wrote: ↑June 7th, 2024, 5:21 amTotal noob in week 9 of the beginner Pete Plan, 55M, started week 1 with 2:40 pace

Cleared 8k in 30mins today. Was a struggle as I’ve had a tough week at work and training so legs were sore and felt lacking in energy. Sheer determination got me over the 8k. I’ll have another crack in a few weeks when rested and properly warmed up. I think I can get it below 1:50 pace if fresh.

Gave the 30mins another go today after a rest day yesterday. 8149m. Tried to keep below 1:50 the whole piece but didn’t have the legs the last 10 minutes. Happy to know I have given it my all and can let that one go for a while!
