I wanted sub 18:30 for the 5km, in the end smashed it. Felt in control all the way even with the high HR, even had enough to do a little "sprint" at the end. I mean going from 1:50 to 1:43s so not exactly amazing pace but an increase nonetheless.
Nicely done 👍

10k in 39:43.2 today. Not a distance I do very often at all but I managed to beat my 5 year pb of 39:48.1.

At 47 I feel like more PBs going to be hard to come by so happy with that!

Congratulations, that's great to beat a notably old PB.

47 is definitely not too old to set new PBs so don't convince yourself it is

well done Andy and keep rowing. I'm sure you have more in you

the long distance stuff particularly (which I'm also not a fan of) seems to reward volume and consistency, so I'm sure you could keep improving on that one if you stuck at it

but anyway...well done!

Same here, started at 48 and now 50.

The advantage (at least in my case) is that I was starting from zero physical condition so yeah, I can hope to delay the point at which my PBs start declining :)

If you can keep things going it should be more than possible to see those numbers tumble. Don't do what I did and take a sebatical cos it now feels like starting from zero again. Also debatable whether 4x Covid will be a long term impact more than the age.

It is definitely a bigger deal to set a new PB when you start to be a bit older. (not that you are really old at all.)

No point if it was easy, Ive just beaten my 13 year old PB at WIRC last Saturday in the 500m MHW60-64 cat 1:30.6 versus previous best at 1:31.8. I intend to re-run the 500m at home since the stsrt may have 'robbed' me of 0.5s compared with a gym attempt.

Keep at it, you never know
Age 61, on 2/01/22 I rowed 115,972m 11hrs 17m 57s and raised £19k for https://www.havenshospices.org.uk/ Thanks for all the support

Had another go at the internal Team Oarsome challenge - 2k, as a team member beat my time by 1.7s.
I was very convinced I can beat his time as well, because my recent 2k was more or less controlled and I felt I could give a little more, so I decided to give it a try, even if I have to go for another 2k next month for the CTC 🤣🤣

Race plan this time was nearly the same as in the last 2k. Start a bit faster (target 1:38.5), settle into a slightly slower pace for the middle (target 1:39.5, missed it a bit), open up the last 200m.
Could beat his time by 0.2s 💪🏻💪🏻😄 and got another 2s off of my recent 2k PB - but this was really tough. Not sure, if I have another second in me, when I'm fully recovered and rested. Will see that in March 😎

Sakly, very impressive to even attempt a second all out 2k so quickly, let alone get quicker in the "deadzone" of the 3rd 500 after slowing to halfway. Have fun in March!

Probably makes it less impressive, when I say that the first 2k last week wasn't all out, but very controlled to reach my target of sub 6:40 (not to say it was easy, it was far from it, but it wasn't all out).
This time it was different, I really had to fight for this result! My body wasn't back at 100%, but my mindset was on point to go deep into it. Competition is key here 😄

Thank you!
