Need advice for dummies

Post by dazedonred » October 11th, 2023, 6:45 pm

My two teenage boys and I have been working out together since 2/23. We’re planning to complete a fitness/strength test this Thursday. In order to record a baseline moving forward. We each chose and exercise. Bench of course, dips, squats, bicycle, and seated rows. I haven’t been able to figure out an appropriate weight for seated rows to establish a baseline. Other than information for 1rep max, and reps & sets. But that doesn’t help. I’m 50yrs 6’4 202 lbs, 15yrs 5’7@ 150lbs and my oldest 17yrs 5’8 @179lbs. I’m hoping to find a % of weight to row/lift based on those statistics. If anyone has some advice we’d greatly appreciate it. Thank you

You need an ergometer Rowerg type D from Concept2 to do a rowing fitness test. If you have such a machine or any other C2 model, but have never rowed, suggest you practice a little on it to learn to row using the legs, then pull a 500m test as quick as possible. This should take around two minutes.

C2 ergometers have a control system that lets us program the distance and then shows the time and power. On such Rowing machines the load is inertial, not mass; we decide the force and then try to keep the air-braked flywheel spinning, so you needn't worry about weights: just pull as hard as you can. It can be quite fun.

This sounds to me like you're asking for advice for a seated row weights machine, is that right? That's totally different to a Concept 2 rowing machine.

+1

Additional: noone can give you an idea of weights with these stats, as it is absolutely depending on your current fitness and strength level, where you start. Could be 50kg as well as 100kg or pounds.
Probably I got the question wrong, because I would think that this is absolutely clear.
