99% unstrapped... I do probably 4% but am probably going to start doing more. Do you just strap in for TTs?Dangerscouse wrote: ↑December 22nd, 2022, 10:08 amPractice is all I can suggest. I also row 99% of my sessions unstrapped, and I'm relatively comfortable with 1:45 pace and r27; anything faster and higher gets a bit too twitchy.rowx3yourboat wrote: ↑December 21st, 2022, 7:56 pmEfficiency is the name of the game! Are there any drills you did specifically, or was it just slow form practice until you got it.
What you want to do is sort of plant your feet and keep your centre of gravity in the core, rather than letting it transfer backwards. It will feel strange to start with, but it does get easier, and I no longer think about it.

Tbh, it's probably more like 85% of sessions, as I don't do enough shorter & sharper stuff, and 95% of the total metres. I'll strap in if I know I will go r27+, but anything lower it's always unstrapped

I generally do steady state, warmups, and cooldowns strapless, and will strap in for hard intervals or time trials. It felt so awkward when I started, but I think it's helped with a more efficient stroke.
I did a few pickups at the end of my warmup for today's hard session where I hit 1:39-1:40 strapless, but I don't like to go that fast strapless for long. And I also can't rate higher than 27 spm.

Re: Flying Feet
Strapless is fine for learning about the erg recovery sequence. But there's no other advantage, once it's served to learn how to get the weight on the feet. Don't try it afloat.

Re: Flying Feet
You win - I hit 37 spm on a strapless 100m piece today. Average rate was 34 spm. I'm not convinced that strapless sprinting has any role in a good training program, but strapless steady state can be helpful with dialing in some technique.

R37?!?! You've got me wondering if I should give it a go. I certainly won't rush into it

Ha ha! IMO That's mad. Strapless at 20 good. Strapless at 30 an interesting but pointless test. Strapless over 30 just dangerous...Dangerscouse wrote: ↑January 17th, 2023, 3:30 pmR37?!?! You've got me wondering if I should give it a go. I certainly won't rush into it
...and anyway the 1 min should be in the 40s!

Hahaha, you're right. I'm just interested in seeing what is possible, even if it's only once.
