I just ordered the RowErg. I’m primarily a runner but also spin bike too. Sprained my MCL a month ago. I kept running a little bit on it, but wasn’t getting better…. So I’m done running and will be more religious with my knee brace (I’m a physician, but not Ortho or sports medicine).
I haven’t spent a lot of time on a rower. Can anyone recommend a modified technique so I can begin rowing while my knee heals?
I was going try locking the seat and just pull with arms and core or put my injury foot on a skate board so it rolls.
Thoughts?

I know of a few people who have rowed with skates / skateboard when they have broken their leg / ankle so that is definitely a temporary option.

IF new to rowing I'd hesitate to teach your body to row with unusual technique to avoid using your knees, or even worse one of your knees.
INSTEAD, row with extremely light pressure and focus on form. If you can walk w/o crutches ("..I kept running a little bit on it..") then you can row safely. (says a non-doctor. As a doctor you know all the normal see a doctor advice).
The light leg drive will also give your abs, back, arms and hands time to catch up with your leg strength.
If you do want to avoid using your legs, search on youtube for "rowing pick drills". These are done a lot to reinforce sequencing. Rowing OTW we do pick drills to warm up and set handle heights every workout. Example https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4a5SxPJWFng
EDIT: drag factor. Set a light drag factor. https://www.concept2.com/indoor-rowers/ ... etting-101

Perfect. Yes i can walk without crutches. Not too bad on an injury. Hopefully I’ll only need to take it easy for a couple weeks.Tsnor wrote: ↑September 19th, 2021, 6:22 pmIF new to rowing I'd hesitate to teach your body to row with unusual technique to avoid using your knees, or even worse one of your knees.

Never heard of pick drills. Thanks for the links!
