Controlling music whilst rowing

Post by Dino » November 29th, 2020, 8:13 pm

Nothing worse than having to listen to a playlist song you don't want to, or not being able to adjust the volume.
I have some bluetooth headphones with buttons on one of the ear pieces but its still a pain letting go with one hand.

I therefore invested in one of the bluetooth buttons that is sold for you to attach to steering wheel of your car for non-integrated systems.
There is a stack load on Amazon from £10 up, but I picked the Tunai Button as it is water resistant and also looked the easiest to attach to the rower handle.

The holder itself comes with three different sized rubber rings which stretch round the grip. The button itself then attaches to the holder with a magnet. I tried I couple of positions. Facing you is easiest for thumb but as I thump the handle into my chest on occasion, on top worked best.

That's pretty cool! Price seems right.

Here's one I saw on Training Tall's youtube channel:

https://www.ergremote.com/products/ergremote

But more expensive!

I wish somebody would make a TV remote for the erg handle.

Cool - I didn't know they had gone into production with that. I remember seeing it on Kickstarter a few months ago.

Cool idea.....might look into that. But I tend to watch Netflix or SkyGo and choose something that will last longer than my session. I rarely listen to music now.

You should be able to hack something together with a Wemos and an IR LED. The hard part is getting battery power to a fast moving handle.

Which device are you using? I haven't had much luck yelling at Alexa!

I only listen to the sweet music of my erg fan crying out for mercy! Yeah, whatever ;o)

I’m beginning to tell from the sound of the pull whether it’s a goodun!

Quick clarification on the ergremote - it isn't just for controlling music, think of it more as a remote control for your device (whatever that device is). So if you're watching YouTube on your phone or tablet and you want to pause / skip forward to next video / skip back to a prior video, those functions work. If you're listening to music (in a variety of apps), those functions control the tracks you're listening to. I have linked it directly to my Alexa Show 8, and it can control functions directly with that device (for example, if watching a show then play / pause / skip forward 10 seconds / skip backwards 10 seconds / volume up/down all work as you expect they would).
