Weight Categories

Has there ever been any thought to having more weight categories on the C2 logbook? I can only guess the light/heavyweight categories are like that for a reason (Olympic categories?), but it often makes it hard to get a true comparison to others. I’m spot on 76 kg and would be much more interested in comparing my times for those in say a 70-79kg class then 100kg muscle machines.

Go on a diet and lose 0.5kg? You're LWT.

And yes, it would make sense but I suppose it shadows the rowing LWT/HWT division and I v much doubt that'll change any time soon.

yes @Grantmatt it has been discussed many times over many years although typically it is raised by 80+kg men rather than 76ish because there is no doubt that on a race day you could easily go <75 and race as a lwt. (I know of guys around 78+ who can get down with a week of discipline). If I were you I would certainly compare my times with others in the lwts but only log pieces done at <75kg. There are huge problems trying to establish more weight groups - doesn't make any sense in the end

And yes, I can easily be a leightweight. But then its the same issue in terms of unfair comparisons, but now I have the advantage. Though I should point out people 10-15kg less then me can certainly leave me for dead.

Some lightweights pull sub 6.
Have seen a 69 kg guy pull 6.02....

If you look at it that way then every sport is unfair.
Only a few sports have weight classes (and rowing is one of them), and even with a lot of weight classes it's only "less unfair". With 100kg I won't be a good runner, but as there are no weight classes I would run against 50-60kg guys. If I want to do a sport competitively then I'll pick one that fits to my physis, a 60kg marathon runner will never be a good shot putter, and a 6ft6 140kg shot putter will never be a great runner, both have no weight (or height) classes :)

Spot on, but I will say this...unless someone is a fairly extreme example you can pick a sport you enjoy and likely get quite good if you apply yourself intelligently.

Yeah right, thanks! :oops:

Totally agree, I always picked the sport I liked, some fit good (weights, martial arts, erg sprints), others less (football/soccer, cycling, longer erging), I enjoy(ed) all of them, with time you'll get more and more adapted to the specific sport up to a certain level.
