HR Strap Battery Keeps Coming Off

Post by Meek » August 26th, 2019, 9:12 pm

I have a Suunto Ambit 3 that I use for most aerobic events. It's a great device. I am having issues as it has a circular 'pod' that connects to the strap right by my sternum. Almost every time I've erged/ergged(so) I've hit it with the handle/oar(?) and it falls into my shirt, I lose HR and then fumble for it. Once it got out of my shirt and rolled 10m away.
Anyone else faced with this issue? Do I 'tape' it in place to make sure it won't be dislodged?
Thanks.

I use a polar H7, and I never have this issue. I'd say take it easy and don't force the oar into your chest..?

Have you tried moving the strap to another position where it doesn't collide with the handle? You can probably move it a lot up or down and still get a valid HR signal. I sometimes carry it around my belly (a Garmin strap, but probably not any different from your strap).

If that doesn't work, you could consider an armband sensor. Both Scosche and Polar make them. You will of course have to check that they are compatible with your watch - but both of them come with both Bluetooth and ANT+, so they will be compatible with most watches.

Great. Thx for the replies.
Does the Polar have a specific model number?

Polar H7 is older but doesn't have ANT+ so you can broadcast HR to only 1 device.

Polar H10 is the latest and also a bit slimmer. It has both BLE and ANT+. With software update over Polar Beat app and a toggle of a setting there, you can broadcast HR to two devices over BLE and over ANT+. I use it to broadcast HR to PM5, ErgData on Android and Polar M400 watch simultaneously.

If you have a PM4 or a PM5 get a Garmin HRM1G. They are as cheap as chips on E-Bay sent from China where they are made.

Wahoo tickR off amazon. Paid only £35 brand new for mine including delivery. Ultra reliable, and the strap works spot on and stays where it should.

The brand new Garmin from E-Bay was only £12 at the time and I bought 2 of them from different sellers but I notice the price has increased slightly probably due to exchange rate variation. One seller included the CR2032 battery, the other did not.
