I put a filter over the air inlet about two years ago. Max DF has been 85 and constant ever since. Even this level lets me get well over 200 Watt if I want to.

Suggest C2 supply standard filters for say 100-120-140 drag at sea level with the damper wide open. Or 130 with no mechanical damper at all, so long as any user can remove and wash it with no tools; might even reduce costs.

What HVAC supplier would let all that muck into his machinery?

So I have told the guy at the gym that the machines are in need of a good clean (got a blank look when trying to explain DF)
Forget about drag factor when talking to the gym. You need to simplify the message:
The machine doesn't give enough resistance when the grid is dirty.

If he doesn't believe you (it is counter-intuitive that more blockage causes less resistance), compare it to a vacuum cleaner:
When you block the inlet, the motor spins up because it feels less resistance.

Hi. I had similar probs myself at my not inexpensive gym..

Eventually I went there and started dismantling the fan cover...asked for their vacuum. Next minute the manager was there...

Explained... Manager embarresed ... No further probs!

I would dispute the statement that no serious rower goes below df 100!!!!!
