Had a PB for my 500M last night at 1:23.2

Nothing too exciting and it was totally unplanned. Just recently started to feel back to my old self and have been mostly doing longer rows and no short intervals or anything. Was pressed for time last night and decided to do a quick warm-up and then maybe a short interval but decided to do a 500M to see how far "off" I was from before. Did first 100M at 1:21.5 which I always do first 100m quicker then settled into a 1:23/1:24 pace for 200M and had a good rhythm then with 200 to go I decided to go all out to close, stroke rate went to 47 but pace only came down to 1:22.5 for 100M and then I hit the wall and slowed to 1:25.5 over last 100m and was fading hard on last few strokes. Wish I would have just kept the pace/rate I had from 100-300 in and then sprinted with 100M to go. So, for not being warmed up too good and for not pacing it too good I dropped .5 seconds off my PB and know I could do a little better - let's me know I still have the shorter in me.

Congrats Keith, unplanned and not paced well, looks like you should "easily" get sub 1:23 when well prepared!
And I'm happy to still have one distance where I'm faster than you, even if it's just 0,1 sec

LOL - when I saw my finish time I realized I missed your time by .1
I had it at 1:22.7 until the last 100M - I don't usually fade that hard but I screwed up my rhythm at the 300M mark - I was just happy that I wasn't worse than before as I haven't been sprinting much at all.

Nice, certainly with no special training for it. So more to expect on this with training or a bit of practise.

Thanks Henry. As you have helped me to figure out I haven't done much shorter rows lately since I went back to some CF training. Have been doing a lot of 5k, 10k and 40 minute rows at low rating (20 SPM). So, I figured I would be way off but instead got a PB and know I could do better. I don't plan to do much shorter rows and will continue to do longer rows and maybe test a 10K or longer row soon. I am also decreasing my CF work to get another row in each week - I want to keep improving on the ERG.

Half Marathon: 1:31:52 (never done one before, so automatically, a PR)
10k 37:01.6 PR
60:00 15,049 meters PR
30:00 8203 meters PR

The rest of this week will be some slow steady stuff with some kettlebell and other weight work. Next week will be the 5 & 6k.
Those are amazing PBs and in all one week!! Times and distances I can only ever dream about. I think you have a lot more to give in the HM though!! My first few I just treated as 20 mins more than an hour which doesn't seem too bad, then reset my brain for the last 2k :)
Thanks, and I know I can "do" that half marathon in 80 minutes. The thing is - I'm not accustomed to rowing with my legs, feet and hind end completely numb. It's like they've fallen asleep.

I've tried bubble wrap with the cushion from Concept 2, even some off-market cushions..but I think it's just something I have to get used to, so the numbness comes further into the row than just 6k. I never thought I would be one that would need "cushion" for my back side, but now that I've been rowing for a year, I've lost a lot of that "cushion". It's a good problem to have, I suppose.

Sounds all too familiar! Once I started getting to the hour mark my backside was killing me. Tried folded up towel, then the C2 seatpad, then bubble-wrap and a cloth. I suffer from irritable leg syndrome (its a thing - honest!) in my left leg and it gets so annoying sometimes I want to cut it off!! - I was getting similar sensations on the rower as well, losing all power in that leg. I found the various cushioning methods werent much help and anything that raises up the seat position causing a change in angle to the feet which makes the numb feeling worse. So have ditched all the pads and just find the standard seat works best although still get leg issues occasionally. At least you will be sitting down a lot less minutes than me on the HM!!! Hope you find a solution :)

Thanks mate! Yeah, 2 seconds is not that much :D But as your 60min is clearly faster I think you'll also be faster at HM. It's not easy to estimate the ideal pace, to start to fast will result in real pain or HD.
I hope I can do a HM from time to time, 1,5h isn't that easy to get. Next time I'll be a bit faster than your current time to motivate you, unless you do a HM TT before

My first HM, of course a PB :-)

4:24.7 21,097m 2:00.6 199 985 25 153
It was not all out, but hard. Maybe it's possible to hold 2:00 when really all out.
I'm really happy with this effort.
That is a solid time for a HM nevermind your first one. The issue, as you mention, is knowing what's sustainable as it's a very long distance when you go too hard too early. Well done.

If that's your HR on far right column you can hold 2:00. Believe in yourself and prepare for the rough moments and don't forget they will pass and you will adapt. It's usually around 40-45 mins for me that I get a wobble but I almost always improve if I just keep on going.

Thanks Stu! Yes, it's the HR, as far as I know my "anaerobic zone" starts around HR 153, so a bit left, it worked very good for 60min. But it's really a mental challenge, I was pretty nervous before TT :-)

Not in the mood for distance training at the moment, so using this months ctc as motivation.
2600m of 3000m done rate capped to 40spm then opening up the last 400m. Pulling 1:20-1:21 through the finish. Using 2 min rest instead of 5..
