New rower need the right erg
New rower need the right erg
My daughter is novice high school Freshman. It's her first spring season rowing. She has a 2K of 7:10 and 1600 of 6:10. What is the right erg to purchase for her to use at home?

Re: New rower need the right erg
Are you seriously asking that on a Concept2 forum and expecting to get anything other than a heavily biased answer.
Old ergos (model Bs, model Cs, model D1s) turn up on eBay and Craigslist. Buy one within your budget. If it doesn't have a newish PM4 or PM5 upgrade the PM2/PM3 to a PM5 for $180.

She doesn't need one at all, but if it's so cold they can't go afloat, the same type they have at the boathouse.

Re: New rower need the right erg
If I were to buy a new one (I currently have a Model C) I'd get a Model D. The E's sit a bit higher, but for most folks that isn't a huge benefit. And they are a bit more rugged, but for home use the Model D (or even the C's, if you find a good used one in your area) is perfectly fine.
Good luck to your daughter - if she puts the time and effort into it and likes working with the gals on the team she'll find it to be a tough but rewarding experience.

100% agree. If they aren't too expensive then this is the only option imo

Erm... i'd recommend a Concept 2 erg

The quality is second to none. Built to last, and require very little maintenance to keep em running sweet as a nut!!!!!!

Availability new and used, durability new and used, price advantage new and used, widespread use by university and club teams, good resale value, reasonable weight, portability and storage footprint, and the fact that this is a Concept 2-sponsored site make the C2 model C, D, or E the default choices. New D or used C or D would be my choice for a home trainer. A C2 Dynamic would also be worthy of consideration.

From her 2k it sounds like she has a lot of potential. If you can afford it, get a model D Concept2. I have used other machines but in my opinion it is a no brainer - if you have the cash.
Doesn't have to be new but in my opinion you would be wasting money on anything else. Plus, it is the standard machine all rowers use so that is a major reason. Also, they are extremely tough machines.
Good luck.

Yeah Model D/E Concept2....absolute no brainer if you have the money. Go secondhand if you can as there are plenty around that are like new and people have quickly realised it's too much like hard work. #snowflakes
And if you find it isn't for you, then sell it on and get your money back. End of thread.
