I have bought my own erg
It's getting delivered tomorrow so what other 'stuff' is useful / essential apart from the standard kit? Live Rowing app? Smartphone holder?

Congrats! That's a great purchase.
I really like the smartphone holder as I like to row with ergdata running.
My wife made me buy the rubber mat. I sweat so much while on the erg that she wanted to keep the puddles on the mat and off her floor.

Good surface that does not slide and can handle sweat. For the rest only what you want.

Re: I have bought my own erg
Hahahaha, as I work from home I can work around it a bit easier than most people. I'll still use the gym rower as well as early morning rows are going to be too noisy as it will be in the spare bedroom above ours. I have funded it by selling back some annual leave days that I haven't had a chance to use, so I'm still paying for it and Jo is used to me being on the erg so at least it's quicker than having to drive to the gym.
Yeah, I'm used to having my phone on the floor with ergdata running but a holder might be on my Christmas list. I've got a yoga mat to catch the sweat but we'll see if it's enough!mitchel674 wrote: ↑December 11th, 2018, 8:08 amCongrats! That's a great purchase.

Thanks Henry. It's also really good as I can erg later on in the day, rather than 6am, so I'll see if it makes any difference. I am probably being too optimistic by hoping for a 1 or 2 sec improvement on my 2k by just rowing late afternoon / early eveninghjs wrote: ↑December 11th, 2018, 8:27 amNice. Congrats Stu! That's fantastic!
I'd agree with the others. Just a mat, perhaps a rowing seat and some Lube Oil and a phone cradle for Erg Data.

I guess I'm cheap (considering that I own my own erg...), but I don't see any reason to purchase the phone holder. I just set my phone on the floor leaning against my laptop. I don't need to have constant eye-contact with the phone during a row. The PM5 takes care of slowing down time already.
Also, instead of buying a matt, I just toss my towel underneath the erg while I row to catch any sweat.
do buy some ear-buds. It will quiet down those early morning rows -- at least for you!
the one thing on my wishlist that I need: a bigger room. Which means a new house.

A TV within viewing distance connected to the ear buds makes a great combination. Choose something that is fairly mindless and the meters go quicker than staring at the PM5 or erg data. Netflix was made for Erging.
Also, a laptop near the Erg is useful for direct connections if you want to use the the C2 Utility or software such as RowPro.
In addition to the mat, I find wrist bands and a headband also useful for sweat absorption.
There are a number of video's out there for maintenance which I have found helpful. The biggest thing there is to oil the chain every 50 hours.
Enjoy the new Erg.

I like my phone cradle and other doodads mentioned above.
But I really like my fan. I have a good one, but I keep trolling amazon looking for a bigger one. A man has gotta stay cool.

Re: I have bought my own erg
As an aside, you can really make your erg happy by letting it go outside once in a while. I often let mine out on my balcony. A little bit of breeze can do wonders in keeping you cool. I sometimes let my fan go out too. Helps on hard pieces.

Re: I have bought my own erg
I definitely think a phone holder is essential. It's just so much better. I think a well placed fan is useful too, though my machine is in an outdoor building so heat is rarely a problem.
The only other thing I like is having time, temperature and some basic heart rate target zones on the wall. Partly for something to look at but also so I don't get carried away with myself.
Also, an massive poster of Ivan Drago too, obviously.
