HR Monitor with Erg Data

Post by mmurosky » April 28th, 2018, 8:58 pm

Hello,

My husband and I recently added a Concept 2 Rower to our home gym. :D I have been using Erg Data to link to the Concept2 log book with a Samsung S9+

I am interested to learn if others are using a HR monitor. If you are I would be interested in learning more about how the HR monitor connection works.

Thank you!

I use this inexpensive Garmin chest belt with the PM5 on the Model D.

https://www.amazon.com/Garmin-010-10997 ... 86X21GXGBQ

It's worked flawlessly since I purchased it a little over a month ago. You connect it wirelessly via ANT+ to the PM...the PM sends the data via bluetooth to the ergdata app on your Samsung device. When you sync ergdata with the C2 server the heart rate data is sent along as well.

More info available on the C2 site.

I have got a Wahoo Tickr and use a Samsung Galaxy S8 for ErgData.

Personally I hardly use it now as I found it was a limiting factor in my sessions unless it was a HR limited session, which are rare. I also had a few issues with connectivity as Ergdata wouldn't connect properly on a couple of occasions. There might be a hierarchy of connections but I'm not sure if there is or not.

I use my Garmin heart rate chest strap, like this one below

I have a PM5 monitor and pair it every time I work out and I find it really, really useful. I just followed this video on how to connect it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vhj5eWtipEg

Ditto. I have the Tickr & Galaxy S8. I also had some issues with connectivity. Watching the HR all the time definitely messed with me mentally.

I read a lot of helpful discussions on this board regarding max HR, etc. I no longer use the HRM. However, since my fitness & cardio are improving quickly, I will put it on for a longer SS ever week or 2 to see my progress.

I use garmin ant +hr with pm5. I also link my s7 with cabled as this seems to work better.
I think pola r will connect with earlier pm s but a bespoke cable is required

Thank you for sharing! The ANT+ link is what I was trying to better understand. Some other articles/ threads I read didn't incorporate that information.

Do you mean you are less likely to push yourself if you know what your HR?

I am interested in improvement over time. At the moment I am wearing a Fit Bit but I am not sure how accurate that actually is.

When you say cabled - your phone is cabled directly to the PM5?

My pleasure. If I can be of further assistance just shoot me a PM or ask here.

The consensus on connection priority is first monitor to ED on phone via bluetooth and second to HR strap (both wireless for those using ANT+ for the HR connection). The hardstrap Garmin ANT+ shown above (HRM-1) is cheap, cheerful, reliable, and long batt life.

I connect the Garmin to the PM first via ANT+...then the PM to ErgData via bluetooth. So, at least in my case, it works that way as well. B)

Yes... cable and holder from concept 2.

Connecting via b.tooth was inconsistent.
I link to b.tooth headphones don't know if that affected connection.... plus with the cable it will connect to earlier pm s ... but no hr of course

Hope this helps

Mine as well! I got it backwards. The consensus is the way Blues__ describes. My bad (but not my worst) :!: The reverse also works for me but strap recognition is very slow. I go now to bang my head against the Wall of The Cocksure Idiots.

Don't be hard on yourself. My case just happens to fall into the "blind squirrel that finds an acorn" category.
