Tom- what an epic time! Congrats mate. That is a huge slice off your previous too. With your fitness and build, I think there's much more to come. Well done!

Thanks Paul. It'll probably be a little while before I have another go.

@Henry - yeah, hopefully it's just a case of a typo when entering the split e.g. typing 1:24 instead of 1:34 or whatever, but still: if you rank a piece and you're at the top of the tables by over 2 minutes you should probably check you haven't made a typo. Not a big deal in any case, just found it funny.

Nice effort on the ski erg regardless. I don't know whether it's the case or not by my feeling is that the ski erg is a little slower than the erg so going over 16k is bloody impressive.

Most often I think yes. Or a not well set pm. Think don,t really "impossible" results should be eliminated.

Ski is a bit slower, but not that much, simply not that many using it, but records are picking up.
Real skiers are also, compared to otw rowers, smaller/lighter, so for them strenght/weight is limiting.

And I haven,t pulled it off yet :-), pm worked again today, but clearly something is wrong.

@ Tom just checked and the top 10 percentile is 18:26 for all ages and from 3907 ergers. That shows what a great effort your time is.

Thanks Rob. To be fair, my previous PB was probably more of a hard training session than a true TT. Also I deliberately rated up and kept my strokes light during this one (previous PB was rate 25, this was 27) which really helped. That said I'm pleased either way. I'll have to have another go at an 8k 30 minutes soon.

@Henry - I'm going to give the ski erg a go soon. I suspect it'll be humbling how slow I am but it'll be fun to progress with something completely new.

Atm I row/ski 50/50 ski is very different, legs/back don,t do the work. Aerobicly the 2 help eachother I think. I like the skierg, something new after years of rowing.

The two seem a good fit. There not quite opposites of each other movement wise but they're close. I've been having some annoying niggles from rowing, particularly on longer rows, so thought I'd cut back for a while and thought the ski erg would be a good replacement for the lost volume. That and I will finally start lifting.

Great 5k Tom
I am sure that some of the fast unverified times are done on water rowers and ranked in ignorance.

Great PB Tom. I always find Paul's Law to predict my 2k a split faster than what I am actually capable of, but consider your strength on the shorter pieces I'm sure you've got a sub 6:45 in you!
Probably 75kg 6ft 4inches

Thanks Lindsay and Scott.

That's a good point Lindsay and might very well be what it is.

I think I probably have around a 6:45 in me Scott, though I'm in no rush to test it again.

That's some strong stuff there Tom! Very nice. That's, by the way, faster than my 2K pace! I can't even imagine (cause I know I never will) hold that for a 5K. Really nice!

Thanks Mike. My 2k PB from back when I (briefly) rowed OTW was 7:12 so hitting that for a 5k felt good (well, and bad because it's a TT :D). I definitely couldn't imagine holding those sorts of splits for that long even a couple of months ago.

Yeah, this is my first PB that's above the 90th percentile in my age group this season. Of course I am in the 99.5th percentile for height in the UK so really I'm cheating

The stars aligned this year on my training. Now I don't have to wonder what could have been last year when I was training in the PP group early in Sept/Oct, showing that sub 7:15 was possible and then got sick 3 times. No flu this year, no injuries and only one vacation (one week) that got in the way.

Ran (for me) nearly the perfect race. Great start, fast but not too fast, held in the middle (just a bit better than expected) and hammed the last 500. Mostly 28/29 throughout.
Wow :o
Congratulations!
