I recommend the following technique, both on the erg and the water, always.
Breath out at the catch and the release, and in as is comfortable. Two breaths per stroke - always.
For light work take smaller breaths.
Relax the airway. Quiet, open mouth breaths.
We can use between 7 and 18% of our energy breathing,and deep breaths are very expensive. Even the experts
apparently use no more than 65 to 80% of lung capacity. Two 40% breaths are probably cheaper than One 80%, and Two 60% breaths--------.
Do it always so that it becomes an automatic part of the rhythm.
