This week have been bad training wise. Felt like some pre-illness feeling in the beginning of the week so didnt want to train at all.

I also found out the gym member ship I have through my job will end last day in june. That means I will no longer have access to a c2rower, which means I have to have go at the 2K sooner than I planned. I have to get in 2-3 workouts/week now to be prepared.

Today's workout. 500's. Same workout as 2 months ago. Slower average pace with 0.2 sec, but I did manage to pull all 4 with same pace 30spm, which means at least the pull was little stronger.

Was hesistant to train, feeling not 100 % and my kid have been ill for some days. But I made up my mind and went. Did some HR based training again, holding 22-23 spm and pulling hard until HR reached 175. I made it til 14:20 this time. It was an ok training session, despite not feeling 100 % I could push quite hard anyways.

Today I can feel a sore throat. I guess there will be some days with no real training at all. Just to accept and do my best to recover, eat good food and stay hydrated.

After some illness I was finally able to train today. Easy running just to get the breathing going.

Very interesting reading a lot of the posts in this topic.

For me, a sub 2k row is much more achievable than a sub 40 10k run.

I am very new to rowing, but discovered fast that my body type is WAY more suited to rowing than running.

Yes I agree, for the heavier athlete the sub 40 10K is more difficult. On the other hand a sub 7 2k is more difficult for a lighter and shorter athlete. For my height and size I find these two goals to be well worth fighting for.

Some weeks ago I met one of my comrades from military service when watching a local 10K race, he managed to run at 40:05 min and I would guess his weight is around 90 kg. Wellrounded athlete with a background in cross country skiing. It would be intresting to see he do a 2K - my guess is that he would be under 7 min very fast, if not on first try.

No possibilities to run or row. Did some light bw training at home with a 10kg plate. Curls,presses and squats.3x50 squats, the breathing got going.

Hi Grip just dropping by to let you know I'm still following your progress. I personally am not running right now, as I've started to do a bit of lifting and don't have the time or energy to do all 3. I'm hoping to reintroduce the two runs once I'm used to lifting and have moved from 3x whole body workouts to 4 x targeted sessions.

I've also got a firmer target of September for the 7min mark. First waypoint will be 7:05 which I will attempt in mid July following 2 cycles of the PP.

Great to see you posting here Optimus! Im sure the lifting will benefit your rowing. What kind of exercises do you do when lifting, squats and deadlifts? I would also like to start lifting, but I want to check of these goals first.

Med-distance piece aiming for 22-23 spm until HR was 180. Got to 13:59. Seems to have lost some endurance since some weeks ago before I got ill.

But I know I'll get back and improve more as long as I can stay healthy and get in > 2 workouts per week.

Did a morning session. Plan was to do some 4-5k hard session, but felt very early something was not right. So I canceled 1k in and ended up doing some leg presses 3x20.

This week I've got some slight cold so no training until today.

As I knew the training card would expire 30 june I thought I should at least do a 2K to see were I'm at. Training last two months have been very sparse, I guess an average of 1 row session/week. So going in for this TT I was definetely not feeling my best, but things had to be done. My plan was to start at around 1:46 and see how it felt, best I would expect was around 7:10 -ish. First 1000 m was quite good, but then I started faded quickly as you can see below.

Even though time was not good, it was a PR. Im happy I did it despite not feeling my best. Lactate build up was not as terrible as the 500m's I have been doing. Worst thing was actually the breathing. I can really understand a 2K is purely an endurance event. Next time I will better my 2K I will do more 2K's. There's a saying you get better at what you practise.

Thanks to all who have been following and commenting! Over 100 views per post indicate people are intrested in this topic. As for now I won't continue the rowing training as Im loosing the ability to get a cheaper training card through my job. Now I will be focusing on the running and more strength training. Im sure I will get back to rowing some day, it's a great sport!
