I'm guessing it was your first race too if you were taken by surprise by the time delay at the start.
Not my first race, Rod, but it has been 9 years since the last one, so I guess I forgot about it. When I saw it happen, I decided not to look at the average for awhile, and just row the paces I planned ahead of time.
The other thing I noticed was that my monitor flashed "ROW" a split second later than the external video monitor which was showing all competitors in event. Either there is a lag in the racing software, or I am imagining things, which is certainly possible.

Good question Chris, I seem to remember reading somewhere that there is a ''lag'' in the software but I'm not sure, I'll ask one of my clubmates in our facebook group as he seems to know about these things....plus if anyone on here knows and can enlighten us?
67 year old, 72 kilo (159lbs), 5'8''/174cm (always the shortest on the podium!) male. Based just south of London.
Best rows as an over 60. One Hour.....16011 metres. 30 mins.....8215 metres. 100k 7hrs 14 mins.

I didn't know whether I would get there, but felt pretty good in the end.
One surprising thing I noticed was at the start. I'm used to pulling several seconds below my target pace just after the first few strokes. But in a race, the time starts when the screen says ROW. Depending on your reaction time, your first stroke is therefore slow. I saw an average pace over 1:42 when I would have expected to be around 1:36. It took about 750 meters of rowing at around 1:41 to get my average down to where I expected it. Next time I'll pay more attention at the start.
On to the CRASH-B's.

Woo Hoo!
Awesome!

Ice job Donnie! Don't forget to change your signature times - that's the best part. Looks like you smashed it.

Don't know how I missed this. Very hard to go sub-6:40 in one's mid-60s. I'm only aware of TJO in Hawaii who has done it [Verified, 6:36.4, 2014], before Chris. I could never get there. Only doing 6:40.7, age 66, 2012. So, I'm impressed. Maybe there are a couple of more seconds out there. Good luck at Crash-B. There are some mid-60 guys who have some work to do.

Yes Jim it is a bit of a game changer and very impressive. I am training with Chris tomorrow - should be interesting.

Atlanta Erg Sprints: usual anxiety. Was on or a hair faster than my plan until 400 to go. Saw the pace go slower and the rate go higher at about 200 to go which was do or die time. Managed to hang onto 7:01.7. Lost a bit at the end. Better than last year which is just fine with me. Gives me a reason to keep trying.
It was nice to meet Jim. He's actually quite pleasant!

Glenn I would be lying if I said I had not hit refresh on the training page a few times over the last half hour or so to see if you'd posted your result.
Congratulations on the PB - and great attitude for the future! Hope you can enjoy a couple of frothies tonight to celebrate!

Blood - the frosties will be going down in about 10 minutes! I feel good about it. I think I drug out the speed training amnit too long this year. Lost some mojo from our PP days. Or maybe this is as good as I can do, which would be fine too.

Given that it's 10 years later I can safely forget about my old PBs and submit the first new (old age) PB: 6K: 22:38.8.

Great showing, Glenn. Congratulations.
Well done, H20. I suspect you were no slouch those ten years ago.

Nice pull Glen! When you fade at the end you know you gave it everything you had. 7:01...very solid; I knew you had the fitness and you came through. I remember several weeks ago you were getting a little antsy about competing; so glad you worked through it and were able to lay down a solid number. This will be something you can file away for the future when the doubts start to creep in.
