Hi all,
As a keen rower i've always been bugged by how little rowing clothing has changed over time or improves to meet our needs!
So I was thinking about doing something about it...so just wanted to see what people's biggest frustrations with the clothing/footwear they wear for Rowing/Erging in are??? Vent all your frustration here!!!
I also have a survey you can fill out and have wangled a 50% off Max's Protein Bars as an incentive if you're UK based:

erg clothing, is whatever is clean and fresh - nothing too dangly.
OTW sort of depends on the weather - nothing too baggy - sort of tend to buy either nordic walking or running stuff.
i do have a bike gore softshell, but its sort of a interim sort of thing. its too warm (but has zips under the arms for ventilation) - sweat like a rapist after about 30 minutes in that thing.
so i guess thats something that could be improved.
jacket
softshell or similar material. form hugging but not too tight on back or arms.
windproof on the back, with vents under the arms. breathable

I don't really see any limitations with clothing worn for erging. There might be scope for better heat dissapation with fabrics. I don't know what others think about compression garments but personally I've only ever found those of use for recovery and for support (due to injuries or weakness) and there are plenty of things on the market to cater for that. I think with a pair of shorts, seam placement can lead to a little discomfort for proper rowing shorts probably alleviate that anyway?

Currently I use 3/4 (or Capri Pants) length compression leggings to support my knees, with cotton briefs, and a pair of cheap shorts as I don't think the people at my gym are ready for the full horror of me in tight capri pants

. My top is a anti bacterial loose fit top. On my feet are a decent pair of trainers with support for my flat feet and some cheap sports socks. This works fine for me, I'm not at a training level to tell if when I change something if my performance changes. However anything that improves heat dissipation would certainly be welcome, even doing steady state work my top/shorts are soaked at the end of 45 minutes.

I erg at home in just shorts. Either cotton briefs under lightweight gym shorts, or cheap compression shorts that are not overly tight on the thighs.
Only problems for me are shorts that are comfy when standing can get tight on the waist/stomach when sat leaning forward for long periods.
Generally only wear the compression shorts for short intervals for that reason.

Yeah, i do have the luxury of being able to erg at home indoors. I did used to erg with top on but the sweaty stickyness irritated me a lot... so i no longer wear one.

I wear something like a bike short without the padding with an athletic brief under it to keep a couple of things where they need to be. Maybe an improvement would be a single garment, instead of two, that was tight fitting and supportive/containing. Since I am at home, I usually don't wear a shirt usually to stay cool. I would add that I use a Halo head band or visor that has a rubber strip that moves seat to the side of my face which is nice. I also use weight training shoes with a raised heel which makes the feet connection feel good.

I guess I'm Captain Obvious here, but I wear a rowing uni.At the gym I wear a tee shirt over it, take the tee off while I'm rowing and put it back on when I'm done. Lycra doesn't get sopping wet with sweat like cotton . OTW same thing. Half the people at our boat house wear unis' so no big deal. With the cold weather I add an Under Armor top and cycling leg warmers, So far been out down to 35 degrees (F) and very comfortable.I also have a closet full of cycling gear which I pull from and a couple of tri-suits; very comfortable.
