Week 10 of BPP done for me so it's my first 10k tomorrow morning! Didn't manage to do all five sessions this week as I've just had my house plastered so have been trying to paint and clear up mess. I did the 8k on Friday morning then the optional 7x500m on Saturday.

Glenn- Robustly done 5x1500 with neatly negative incremental intervals. Nice low % HRR on your 8K @ 2:07. And then, you did another 8K @ briskly paced 2:09, since I previously posted here. Piling up the meters.
Lindsay - Plowing through the meters, logging them with solid work. Very impressive pacing on the 10K.
Paul - Vigorous 2:15.7 pace, for your succinctly stated steady state session of October 29th. And a more vigorous 7,500 meter following it on Oct 30th. Solid work. If your legs feel the whack then you’re on the right track.
Luke - You squeezed a LOT more work into your short time of wk 6 day 2 by doing “easy” at 1:59.5. Easy for you, not so for others. Add some more cheers, based on that 4x1K you did, toward a sub 7 two-K.
Rohan - Even without the stroke data & chart, that’s an impressive lineup of watts & sub 1:44 pace for each of those 8x500m intervals. And you really plowed through the 15K SS on Oct 30th!
Tim - another healthy 8K, especially under (rather severe) duress and with heart strap flying off!
Gordon - Solid, brisk-paced extra-credit BPP work with the 2x10 mins.
Piers - very nice looking, consistent pacing on the pyramid and a lot of gas left for that last 250 meters. You kept the heavy meal down… which is saying something about your conditioning. A few months ago I rowed a set of intervals online with someone who’d eaten just before the session and right afterwards she said, “I feel like I could throw up!” You may not be looking forward to your upcoming 4x2K but I am.
Street - Impressive pacing on the 8K and even more so on the 7x500, with the 1:46.8 finish. Very nicely done.

Checking on from Cabo. Gym sucks. After yesterday travelling (a lot) and being up 20 hours straight (it was my scheduled day off), slept in a bit. Been walking a TON. Got to the gym today and managed to get a decent lift in and did some running intervals. I remember why I hate running so much. Did manage, though, to get my HR up there a bit (over 180), so I was at least doing some work. Tried out my goggles and fins (prepping for tomorrow). I'm planning on doing my SS work as lots of swimming (in between Bloody Mary's and Fish Tacos).

Off travelling for 3 weeks now. Not sure how much rowing I'll get to do over this period but at least today, visitng Boston, and managed a great outing on the Charles with an old friend. Magnificent Meanwhile keep up the good work and I expect to see some great numbers when I get back.

Lindsay, I'm doing that session coming up. Any thought about its pacing in relation to the other speed sessions?I had thought it was about on 2K pace in a perfect world.

Yes Glenn that was my thinking by the end of it - in a perfect world the first two would have been faster but with "new" interval sessions I guess you do leave a bit in the tank being unsure what lies ahead. Right now my perfect 2k is probably/hopefully 1:42 or a little better and my "perfect" 8x 500/3:30 is around 1:39 and my 4x1ks say 1:41. I think I could go sub 1:42 next time with this one. (FWIW Terry's 1:50.0 is actually close to his 2k at the moment - he has 7:20 in his sights for Saturday.)G-dub wrote:Lindsay, I'm doing that session coming up. We talked tonight though that is hard to make rules about 2ks from intervals as every one is so different - we have done a lot of them and they suit us so they usually look pretty good and maybe not translate so well into single pieces.

It's the 2500m that sucks. After that the 2000 feels like a holiday. Guess that's the point!

So true about extracting info from intervals. Once you are in a 2K or 5K the distance feels way different (a bunch worse) than just hammering out another 500m interval after 3:30 rest for instance. I guess big round even numbers are mentally hurdles. Only 500m longer than last week, but I was worried about finishing the whole time. Made it through and continuing to build a base. I did 8000m on Saturday (BPP10.4) at a really slow pace just to get some more meters in last week.

Rough go today. Attempted 5 x 800 4:30'R. Got 4-1/3 done at 1:45.5 ish. I keep crashing on the longer speed intervals (this one and 1K). Everything else I'm doing interval wise is going well and much better than a year ago. I really need to be ready for 4 x 1K next week. I need a solid finish on that one even if its slow.

@ Piers - nice pyramid Piers - good to get them all under 1:47!
@ John N - very fast final interval in your 8x500 there John - obviously had a bit left in the tank after the first 7.
@ Luke - great outcome on the waterfall, but glad you didn't try for sub 7 as the final interval there - that would not have ended well.
@ Ben - congrats on hitting the 10k mark and Street good luck for yours.
@ Lindsay - look like some strong times for the 6x750 there. What's your race this week - and are you tapering at all for it (even a day or 2) or just counting it as next weeks sprint interval session? What's your target pace (and I assume from your post Terry is racing also)? Good luck to both of you!
@ Glenn - sorry to hear about your outcome there - maybe as Henry suggests do try a 4x1000 where you ease into it to make sure you get through it and get than demon off your back? Even if you didn't achieve your mental objective here the 4 1/3 must still count for something just from a physical standpoint too.
PP 4.1.3 for me today - 5x1500m/5:00r. Average of 1:52.4 is 5k-1.1 and -0.7 to the quickest I've done this previously (which was 12 Sep). Average was brought down by a faster 5th interval, but I'm most happy with how this felt - which was great throughout the intervals, in the rest periods and afterwards - as well as being my quickest this was certainly my best effort at this workout from a control perspective.
Also happy with the pacing - 3rd interval in particular which had 150/159 strokes at either 1:52, 1:53 or 1:54, negative split trend in the 5th (pictured below) with a sprint that wasn't too crazy - last 27 strokes all between 1:40 and 1:45:

Thanks H. It's weird how different the "tired" feels to me on the long speed ones - I get more legless and really hit the wall. And I can't seem to synchronize rate and pace to find a good fit so I'm either feeling too much in the legs or getting too winded.
