When do you erg your best...and why?
When do you erg your best...and why?
On your own at home?
In the gym with people round?
During competitions?
Against online opposition?
With a fellow erger or ergers next to you?
Me: not sure yet, don't think there's much in it. Pride myself on internalizing the effort/motivation so never struggle for motivation. Oddly enough, time of day seems largely irrelevant to me too.

I erg at home. Early to mid-afternoon is when I feel the strongest.
Re: When do you erg your best...and why?
Most important is time of day and best for me is noon (good for up to 5% vs. morning rows and ahead of evening rows as well); therefore, during the week, the gym is the best place. On weekends the home erg works fine too.

The only time I have to erg is in the evening around 7pm - works well for me, but if I read the medical literature correctly, one's peak performance should, on average, be around 3-4 in the afternoon - may have to try that sometime. I row alone at home - thinking about Rowpro or the winter.

Re: When do you erg your best...and why?
At home on my own erg, with my nice big fan on, something fairly boring on Netflix with subtitles on, and best performance is usually in the early evening after a good day's eating.
Compared to the dirty old erg at work in the office gym, with poor aircon, no fans, and the same 6 songs on repeat on mtv dance, it is a dream!

Pretty much anytime, right here

Have never rowed anywhere else.

@Galeere - yes, was aware due to circadium rhythm later in the day is often physiologically better but I've done some strong rows later morning and around lunchtime. Not enough info yet for me to come to a conclusion with erging.
@Tim - I'd reciprocate with a pic of where my erg is but the fact is I keep it separated in an alcove in the k i t c h e n and set it up in the middle when I need it.

Re: When do you erg your best...and why?
Races, I am tapered and best motivated. Big minus, races are always early in the morning which I find horrible. That always costs me time. End afternoon is prefered time for me.Gammmmo wrote:On your own at home?

Train home, gym is not good for TT.
Competition can help in the latter stages, people around who care, also help. Often also a big minus, at races people can keep their raceplan and start to fast. Which gives a horrible result/race. Often seen girls cry during the race, boys trowing up. Reason number 1, not having or holding a raceplan.
Other important factor, form, if I am doing well on my scale that helps, not having good form is a downer for motivation.

Re: When do you erg your best...and why?
C2, X-trainer, spinning bike and free weights and a few kettlebells (unfortunately all light; wifes).
the sauna in the back (just see the sauna door in the mirror) makes up for those tho.
why would i train anywhere else?
two TV screens for media distraction (one at c2 level to avoid neck crick) and a PC for rowpro. Logitech z906 500W system for drowning out the sound of the c2.
I train, when i have time. Personally prefer early morning.
Most of my work is solitary - might join some on-line rows if available - not many people doe HM's a lot. and I like to be a little spontaneous. I work from home so its basically, pen down - answering phone on - back in 90 or so minutes...
row pro is nice - could be a lot better imo - otherwise i would row more online.
Would like to see WOD, C2CTC events on there, maybe even update some more data (stroke/power/etc similar to C2utility). wouldn't like to see digital rowing being swept away by a few android apps that might be coming out with more functionality (liverowing etc.) - but going off on a tangent here.
All TT are being done mid morning. early afternoon.
Late afternoon is reserved for OTW (when the weather is fine)....
P.S. Yes, I know, I wired brushed the loose plaster in the corner - I have a dehumidifyier, but the "shed" (used to be for chickens) doesn't have decent flooring and the room is not heated. Tends to steam up a bit in winter in there.
Its on my todo list

Re: When do you erg your best...and why?
mostly in the gym - much prefer it to solitary at home and much faster with others around - very few TTs at home.
(over the years have developed a good group of erg buddies to train with)
Weekdays in the afternoon and mostly weekend mornings - need to do some early stuff to match with the racing times as henry observed.
Don't really have a preference with time of day - just when I can
Very impressed with the rowing room setups (BTW you should see what Shawn has built in his garage!!)

Some great setups guy's!!! I really like yours, Dean.
Here is mine, which in comparison is rather dull
But hey, it's meant to be work, not play
