Motivate me to do 10k tonight

Post by Ponte.red » February 5th, 2016, 2:22 pm

Hi All

Bought a rower just before Christmas and I've set myself a target of 1,000,000m before my 35th birthday on June 12th....

I'm up to 225,000

However I seem to be loosing the motivation, need to get back on it...

HELP!

(Thanks in advance)

Motivation comes from within. Unfortunately we can't help with that. Perhaps if you watch a movie or binge on some shows you like??

I have created this rule on new years eve for myself:

Only two beers a week allowed to drink only on weekends. But I can earn a additional beer per day on workdays if I row at least a 10k. The beer has to be consumed on the day the 10k has been rowed or I can save it for the next day if I row a 10k again. That means I can sip two beers on that other day. But the beer expires on the same day (23:59) if no 10k has been rowed on the next day. Also this is allowed only once. So I cannot row a 10k from Monday to Friday and add it to the two weekendbeers which would be seven beers.

Btw: Hello Forum, I’m a silent reader from Europe making no progress due to occupational reasons. Best effort so far: 19:21 for a 5k. 187cm, 79kg, 37yo

Do it as 10*1K with 1:30 rest between reps. Do it as 2K warm-up, 3*7 minutes (with 5:00 between) and a 2K cool-down. Row a half marathon. Row a full marathon.

Mix up your training, doing long steady distance every time has to be tedious in the extreme.

It's done ahhrhrhrh

38:27 not too shabby 10sec off best and best in a while boooom

You are right it's from within, but it's a pretty lonely place with 6,666 to go, that machine

First time on this forum so thanks for the response.

Ps. I like the beer rule!!! Had 5 last night tho so, I'll have to do a few 10ks to catch up

my preferred 10k milestones are

2k down (only an 8k left and 8ks are easy!)... 2.5k down (25%!)... 6666 (33%, only a mile til halfway!)... 5k (halfway, only a mile til 2/3rds!)... 3333 (66%)... 2500 (75% done)... 2k left (hey I can sustain almost anything for 2k)... at 1k left the hammer is down and I've finally forgotten to care

and every 500m point in between >_<. 250ms on the bad days

i usually feel pretty spectacular until about 6k in, but by then I'm well over halfway so its all downhill from there

Get RowPro mate, its helping me achieve a record season in terms of meters rowed.

So far the average daily is 6375m, it really helps to row online with others and join them in the pre and post row chat.

Motivation is never a problem for me anymore, have been using RowPro for like 5 years now.

Check out Wolverine Plan Level 4 sessions.

The concentration required to hit a prescribed pace and stroke rate that changes every few minutes takes your attention away from the distance you have covered or the distance you have remaining.

10k sessions become far more interesting.

You need specific goals, just making meters means nothing. Look at things that are important to you and work towards those.

I've read other posts recommending binge watching shows on Netflix and the like, and I must say that is a good strategy. I'm a fairly casual rower, doing mostly UT level work. It took me a year and almost 2 million meters to work up to doing routine 10K rows. I've rarely done an hour straight through without a break. Last weekend, I had the house to myself and set a goal of doing my first HM. I set up the erg in front of my TV and put on one of my favorite old movies, Quadrophenia, and set off on my row. My only goal was to finish the HM without stopping. Then as I saw that my easy-to-maintain rowing stroke was predicting a 1:30 finish, I challenged myself a little with about 8K to go to finish sub 1:29. Ended up with a 1:28. Not particularly glowing for a 50-59 HW, but now that I've done it, I have a better idea of pacing and feel certain I could get myself above the 75th percentile. My point is, however, a movie, sporting event or something else that keeps you entertained makes a long row much more tolerable.

i think you are right, want to try to do a marathon in the next couple of months, maybe something like braveheart or gladiator might keep me going for the 26 miles.....

I'm struggling with the 5,000m turn around at the moment on the 10k, need to get a better play list!!
