So.. I know everyone around here really discounts the "Calories/HR" rating as reported per stroke on the PM4/PM5. I've tended to still stay on that screen however because whether accurate or not, it provides some kind of "meaningful" comparison for me concerning level of effort from one stroke to the next and whatnot. I know I could use watts for that.... but for some reason CALs/HR just makes more sense to me so I stay there.
For my birthday, I just got a Polar H7 Heart Monitor. Curiously enough, I've noticed that when I look at the "average cals/hr" rating for an entire workout.... modified for weight using the C2 Calorie Calculator page.... The resulting value has been very close indeed to what the Polar Beat App on my phone reports was my total calories burned based on my age, weight, and heart rate over the course of my workout.
For being a "rough estimate" of calories burned based on a guess at a body's max efficiency sliding up and down the rail... I'm surprised at how close the numbers have been.

Re: Calorie's Burned Report
That is exactly what it is good for - comparison with your own previous results. The fact that it fit well with other data is a bonus. It is possible that you just happen to fit the standard rower that C2 used for their calculations.jadomatis wrote:I've tended to still stay on that screen however because whether accurate or not, it provides some kind of "meaningful" comparison for me concerning level of effort from one stroke to the next and whatnot.
