As I am now registered in the 500m race at BRIC (also in 2k race) , thought I would see my time! Managed to take 4 seconds off the time, 2 mins 13.7sec's. For me, that is awesome and I now have a benchmark to reduce the time further!!

1:00:00.0 - 16,111m
First and only other attempt at the hour was in early May, at 15,969 so, pleased with the improvement. Nice to bust up and over that 16000m hurdle!
10:00 splits:
1:52.4
1:51.7
1:51.7
1:52.1
1:51.9
1:50.2

Might try the HM in a week or so, debating whether that's worthwhile when I should be focusing on the 5k for the next 6 weeks. And, when I enter better hour totals into the predictive model, my 2k predictions get slower!! :o Faster 5k times, however, have the opposite effect. We'll see.

Lindsay, thanks for the 1x15/1r pace insight for the October CTC challenge. Hope to give that a go this week - Forum Flyers!

Hahha, first congrats, very nice. But you now how those models work, if your long stuff gets better and your shorter stays the same, you performance line gets flatter, hence a slower, left side side. Solution.. Pull a hard 1k :D and your whole line gets lower.

Whooa!!!!
Wait a minute Henry.....are you advocating high intensity training over long, boring, arduous, tedious efforts....??
By that I mean....efforts that actually bring results.
Efforts that actually relate to intended goals
Well shave my head and call me Baldy......
Where's Jim Gratten when you need him?

Excellent hour Damien! The HM isn't too bad, I'd stay away from an FM....they just take too much out of ya. Once you get the HM out of the way (or decide to bag it) you might want to consider backing off the intensity on your long rows, keep the volume but cap the HR which keeps the effort in check. Then stay with the hard stuff up to 5k. I don't get too wrapped up in any of the predictive models. To me, the only times that matter are my attempts at 500,750,1000, and 1250 all at 2k pace. Get that feel honed in.

But, far be it from me to tell you what to do, You're rippin' it up! Looking forward to seeing you at "B's" this year.

Wombat.....ha,ha. Jim's out there somewhere smilin'.

Edward
I commend anyone on a one hour effort. I have only done one (16100) and swore it would be my last. Arse was sore and the mind was numb. The 2k is the holy grail in this sport and you wont get the result you want from the long, slow rows. Shawn Baker will tell you straight......you will never bench 300 lbs once by lifting 50 lbs for 50 reps. You have to put in the hard yards. I bet Carl Lewis never ran a marathon.

Like you you mean? Certainly not, thats the best way to never improve ones fitness. Apart from 500 meter and below.

80/90% long and aerobic, the rest fast ish and short.

And I said nothing about training, just to pull 1 (ONE :P ) 1k.

Jim is a victim of your vision, pulled apart in pieces.....

I should have been more clear: 1k's and 1500s plus LSD to bring down my mid-distance results through November - including the beginning of Henry's beloved 500s. Then hard speed work plus LSD through Feb.
