More aerobic fitness. For a relative short guy that is a good score. Pulling 1.40 is not a problem , pulling it 600 times is :D

6 months & 650km into rowing (40 yo M, 6'3" 96kg) - today did 5k in 19:51:9 - 60% for age so far this year.

Just starting to go after speed instead of distance, but pretty excited by this result. Have lost 25# in the process.

My wife is sick of me talking about rowing ;)

I know, I know...anyone who has competed or thought seriously about competing in any sport, knows there is always someone bigger/stronger/faster. But you must also know that your power ranks in the top echelon.

hjs: my point as well...and if my math is correct he is averaging over 14.7 watts per stroke over that 30 minute span. What percentile does that fall into?

Lots off people can do that, pulling 14.7 watts per stroke. That in itself says liitle. Pulling it 600 times is whst is important. I think you have a bigger deadlift, but its your fitness thats stopping you from pulling it 600 times. Not your strenght.

At the end of last night's 30' 20spm, I tried ripping it and managed a few 1:52s! "Pulling 1:40 is not a problem" was echoing in my head. To be fair I was a bit tired and had a bit of an abdomen problem but still... jeeeeeezis you guys are animals!

But let's see what happens WHEN I can rip 20 spm strokes at 1:40, and you can bet your life that day will come.

...
But out of curiosity, I wonder what is the maximum watts per stroke anybody's ever hit, either for 30 minutes or maybe just 1 minute. @ 20 spm, 10 watts/spm is 2:00.5/500, 11 w/spm is 1:56.7, 12 w/spm is 1:53.4... Ugorakos is pretty close to 15 (8547 would be 15 w/spi). 9k for 30 mins, aka 1:40/500, is 17.5 w/spm. 20 w/spm would be 1:35.6/500. 25 w/spm would be 1:28.8/500...

For that you should look at the top sprinters, low pulls are 102/1.03 ratings high 60/70.

There is been a ctc 2 min rate 20. So 40 strokes. The topguys pull 500 watts. So 25 watt av stroke for 2 minutes. Was july 2013.

Ah I see now. Jens and Dirk are amazing. My guess is Jens probably saw some low pulls around 1:26, maybe even 1:25, so 28.5 w/spm.

Well, I haven't tried my peak power yet, but I think I should be close to this guy:

Peak power: 1:09.5
But here's a stronger one with 1:05.1...

I think NBA star Dwight Howard could be a world record holder by his 6 ft 11 (2.11 m) and 275 lb (125 kg) with very little body fat.

But I'm not sure he ever heard about indoor rowing :D

Just took 13 seconds off my 2k. 7:16.2. Felt my pacing was decent; maybe I could have gone slightly harder and hit 7:14. Averaged 30 spm and was 29-31 throughout. I'll develop the capacity to increase that this year, along with everything else.

I had a loose goal for 7:00 by October 1, but I think I can bring that forward a few months now.

So brb getting more squats, lifts and protein and fats...

Edit 15 mins later: On reflection I wasn't really hurting until about the halfway point, at which point I was on 1:50/500 average; 1:48.5 might have been best. I was tired and gasping at the end, but quite a way from vomit point, and I managed to find something else in the last 150m, pulling a few 1:36s.

Good work Daniel J. You have given me a nice target for next weekend. My hunch is your current time won't sit for long.
