2K time for weight!

Post by NE1994 » March 17th, 2014, 7:43 pm

Quick question:
I currently weight roughly 149 pounds and have had years of rowing experience. However my 2k times do not reflect this. Im currently at a 7:38.2 and i was wondering if this is good or bad. Everyone else on the team is easily 30-70 pounds heavier then i am and their 2ks are much lower. Thank you!

At first glance I thought your 7:38 (233 W) at 149 lb (68 kg) does reflect your experience, because it's not bad at all: over 3W/kg. But not a problem anyway, if you're in stroke seat no doubt you can and do whip those with another 70 lb as hard as they deserve.

However a lot depends on your age, height and sex too. A bit more muscle might help, if you are tall and can supply it with oxygen and whatever else it might need.

Height makes a difference because taller people are able to generate longer strokes so it is easier for them to generate more power at a lower stroke rate.

Young folks are supposed to be in better shape.

Go here: http://therowingcompany.com/training/interactive and put in the 2000m program your data as accurately as possible, then do the last four - five weeks of whatever it suggests.
