Blasted through my old PR last Thursday -- 16405/60m, 1:49.7 (old was 16304). Second PR for the week. I was mostly at r30, but dropped a bit to r28-29 over the last 10 minutes. Splits were mostly negative, but the last 10 minutes were maybe 5m less than the previous 10.

I also pulled PRs for trailing 50 minutes (13761, 1:49.0) and 45 minutes (12398, 1:48.89) and narrowly missed for 40 minutes (11035, 1:48.74). Last 30 minutes were 8293 (much faster than the first 30).

HR maxed at 177, which is about what I usually hit for long max effort. Above 170 for about the last 15-20 minutes, which is longer than I can usually sustain that level.

My line:

2012-07-12 16405 60:00.0 1:49.72 4.557 265.0 1212 RACE PR, 2771/10, 5535/20, 8293/30, 11035/40, 12398/45, 13761/50 PR, max HR 177, subj 95%, r30 dropped to 28-29 final 10

Hi folks - brand new to rowing (started in April) and this is my first post. Logged a 10k today in 43:43, so that's my PB. It was so darned hard that I'm wondering how I'm ever going to get it lower, but I'll certainly keep trying!

I did do three 10ks this week - Monday, Wednesday and Friday, so perhaps a weekend's layoff will help. :D

Have a great weekend!

Tied my personal best for 500m today: 1:26.9

Once I get some more mileage and experience under my belt, and with the help of the great folks at the Concept2 Facebook page, I should make some good progress!

Nice, how's the 2K coming along ? I found that this is the nasty distance because it is about where the power and aerobic abilities cross over, i.e Less distance tests your power and more distance tests your aerobic fitness.

Will give the 2K a shot soon. My other training limits the duration that I can justify on the erg. However, I'm having a lot of "fun" on the C2 and will go for some longer rows too.

Thanks,

Decided, more or less on the spur of the moment, to do a 2K. Broke my old 6:47.2 with 6:42.4. Started off too slow, had mostly negative splits, wasn't totally zonked at the end but simply couldn't pull any harder. My line:

At 61.75Kg I got 7:03.9 for 2000m. 11 seconds off my last PB of 7:14.9. Was hoping for a sub 7:00 but I guess I'm still happy with what I got.

A bunch more pee arrrs and other interesting pieces

* Last 40 minutes of a 50 minute, 11094. Narrowly missed my 30 minute (8423) and probably broke my 10K, but can't be sure.

* No PRs, but a wild and crazy 16225 after a dull 7852 first 30. Went absolutely insane in the last 10 minutes.

* Last Thursday, a 1h PR by a big margin.

* Monday, another not PR, but my third best 1h.

* Yesterday, HM PM that actually averaged faster than my Monday 1h (so was also effectively my third best 1h).

And not to mention that yesterday I also pulled my most daily meters and time, and my week of over 111K was also a personal best.

The last three are because of the WRC. I tend to go a bit crazy. But I've also changed my technique a bit. I'm using higher resistance (DF 112-115, vs. 100 that I used to use) and r24-26 (vs. the 28-30 I previously used), and moved the foot position 1 notch. This keeps my HR lower for longer (it didn't even hit 170 during the big HM, which suggests I left quite a few seconds on the table). Needless to say, I blow that rate cap toward the end, but it's a lot easier sustaining it for 15 minutes than 60.

I had a personal best today - 10383m in 45 minutes. That's not very good compared to most of the numbers I see around here but I'm still proud of it!!! :D

By way of background I got my indoor rower in July 2012 and started out with split times around 2:45/500m. Today's split time was 2:10/500m. I'm tired but feel great! :P

So, is it OK to use slides when going for a WR?

Yes. For all marks except the 2k where there are umpteen hoops to jump through.... For a 2k WR, the piece has to be erged in front of 'certified erg watchers' :D ... even IND_V with video isn't enough...

It will be interesting to see if Oesterling will come to the mainland to go for the 65-69 hwt 2k record or if his friends will set up a certified event out there in Hawaii...

Have you tried slides Mssr. Cycling?
