Your height, and Concept 2 (good for tall people)?

Post by korichards » June 5th, 2012, 3:18 pm

Newb here, thinking about getting a Concept 2 (preferably used), but not too sure if it will work for me. I'm 6'5", with an inseam of 36" - which is exactly the maximum height that customer service at Concept 2 says should work with the standard model. They do offer one with a longer monorail, but I'll never find one of those used.

Is anyone on here of similar dimensions, and do you find the standard monorail length adequate? Any and all guidance appreciated.

I'm 6' 6" with a 35-36 inseam and have plenty of room. You should be fine.

Although I'm only 6'2", I also have a 36-inch inseam. I'm just fine. You may want to simply visit a gym with a Concept2 (they almost all do) and double-check that you are okay.

Thanks SirWired and NavigationHazard. Good advice to go to a gym to check - my concern is that my technique will be all wrong to start, so I won't be able to tell if it will work when rowing properly. But I'm more reassured now that I can use the standard model. Now if I can only find one used . . . someone has a Model C on Craigslist near me for $400 . . . but do they respond to emails? No!

You will have no problem with the standard model. The marks from the rollers on my slide are miles away from the end stops.

If you want to be extra safe... To check, just sit comfortably on the seat, put your feet on the stretchers, and slide your legs to full extension; you don't even need to grab the handle. It doesn't matter how good your technique is or isn't... fully extended legs are fully extended legs; you'll either hit the rear stop or not.

While it is possible to over-extend your legs when rowing if you have loose hamstrings, that's more of a problem for your knees... over-extension doesn't actually make your legs appreciably longer.

If it does turn out you need the extended rail, I'm sure C2 will sell you one to mate with a D you picked up used. (I'd be surprised if they had any for a C, but it wouldn't hurt to ask if it turns out you need it...)

I'm close to 37" on inseam. No problem with standard rail length.

Thanks for all the replies - I'm heartened both that it seems like a standard model will work, and that this is a great community willing to help out. I'll be rowing soon, and asking for more help I'm sure!
